A real kicker The Bulldogs started off the 2009 football season with a scrimmage against Bethel on Saturday, Aug. 22. Quarterback Ryan Newsome carried for a gain above, but Belmont came back stronger to beat the ’Dogs 25–19.

Youth soccer begins

Registration for Yellow Springs Youth Recreational Soccer League begins Saturday, Aug. 29, 10:30–11:45 a.m. at the newly renovated Morgan Fields north of the Yellow Springs High School football stadium. Players and their parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to attend. Participants who are unable to attend are asked to call the coordinator for the appropriate age group listed below for registration forms.

The recreational soccer league is free for all area children in and around the village up to the eighth grade. The league is run by Yellow Springs Soccer Inc., a volunteer-led non-profit organization. Volunteers who would like to help with coaching, assistant coaching, field maintenance, coordinating referees or officiating, or by making a donation, can e-mail Coach Angelo at copa315@aol.com.

Gold and Silver Cup commissioners are Lynn and Bill Hardman, 767-8433. Bronze Cup commissioner is Bob Curley, 767-7070. Copper Cup commissioner is Philip Bottelier, 767-7875. YSHS coach and recreation league coordinator is Jim Hardman, 767-2200.

Golf team 1–6

The Yellow Springs High School golf team fell behind in a tri-match at home at Locust Hills Golf Course on Monday, Aug. 24, and also lost to Bethel on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The Bulldogs’ season record is 1–6, and the team is 0–4 in the Metro Buckeye Conference.

In the tri-match, Middletown Christian won with a low of 160, followed by Dayton Christian with 176, while the Bulldogs came in with a high of 190. For YSHS, Carl Wiener scored the team low of 39, Lucas Donnell shot a 47, Zeb Reichert had 51 and Wade Huston shot a 53.
