Running Events

Village Fun run Sunday
The 24th Annual Village Fun Run will be this Sunday evening, Aug. 23. The annual 2-mile jaunt around town for all runners, joggers and walkers will begin at 6:30 p.m. Registration will start at 5:30 p.m. The entry fee is $3. Refreshments and awards will follow the completion of the race.

YSHS cross country meeting
Preceding the race at 6 p.m. will be the mandatory parent meeting for the cross country team. All athletes and parents of athletes participating in cross country this fall must attend.

YSHS golf wins 1
The Yellow Springs High School golf team got a head start on the fall sports season with three early matches last week, winning its first match against Greeneview for an early season record of 1–2.

The Bulldogs totaled 206 to beat Greeneview with 214 on Wednesday, Aug. 12. For Yellow Springs, Carl Wiener scored 44, Zeb Reichert shot 51, Wade Huston 54 and Lucas Donnell 57.

The local team then traveled to a tri-match on Monday, Aug. 17, and tallied a high score of 193, losing to both Middletown Christian with 168 and Troy Christian with 170. For the Bulldogs, Wiener shot a 37, Lucas Donnell shot 44, Zeb Reichert had 54 and Wade Huston shot 58.

Soccer notices

YSHS alumni soccer game Friday
The annual Yellow Springs High School girls and boys alumni soccer game will be played Friday, Aug. 21, at the high school game field. The girls will play first at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m. All YSHS alumni who played soccer for YSHS are invited to play against this year’s varsity squads. The high school teams will be wearing white. Alumni participants are asked to wear blue shirts to play in. For more information call Lynn or Bill Hardman at 767-8433.

K-8 skills clinic scheduled
The annual soccer skills clinic and registration for the 2009 fall Recreational Soccer leagues will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., at the newly reconditioned Morgan Building soccer fields. All area youngsters in grades K–8 interested in playing in the YS Rec Soccer program this fall should attend with at least one parent. For more information, call Jim Hardman at 767-2200.

Last call for YSHS boys soccer
The YSHS boys soccer team kicks off its regular season next week with games against Chaminade Julienne and Springfield Catholic Central. Any male student at YSHS in grades 9–12 interested in playing soccer this season should contact head coach Jim Hardman at 767-2200.
