OBITUARIES
Barbara Davis
Barbara Hamilton Davis died of heart failure
on June 6, in Los Angeles, Calif. She was 80.
Born Barbara Retta Hamilton on Jan. 7, 1929, in Yellow
Springs, she was the third child of Etta Belle Perry and Kenneth James
Hamilton.
Barbara graduated from Bryan High School and worked
various jobs in high school, including at the Antioch Book Plate company,
Vernay Laboratories and Antioch College.
She received her bachelor’s degree in education
from Ohio State University where she joined the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
She married Dr. Clifford A. Davis on the lawn of her parents’ home
in Yellow Springs on Sept. 5, 1953.
Barbara taught in the Los Angeles schools for approximately
30 years. Barbara was a vibrant, loquacious person who loved life. She
loved music, loved to dance and was a great storyteller, like the rest
of the Perry clan. She was also a very giving and generous person.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister,
Virginia Esther Hamilton; and her husband, Clifford Davis, who died of
heart failure four months earlier.
Barbara is survived by three children, Clifford A.
Davis, Kenneth H. Davis and Lorrie A. Davis; and by three siblings, Nina
Alice Anthony, Kenneth James Hamilton and William Levi Hamilton.
On July 18, 2009, more than 50 friends and family members
from around the country gathered at Barbara’s daughter Lorrie’s
home in Los Angeles to say good-bye to two beloved people who so many
will miss.
