Walk on!

Senior Bulldog Jacob GunderKline race walked to third and fourth place in the nation at the Nike Indoor Nationals and the National Scholastic Indoor Track and Field championships in Boston and New York last weekend. He is pictured with Tipp City Tippecanoe junior Allison Chin, who finished fifth in the Boston girls racewalk, and 11th in New York.

GunderKline and Chin traveled with three other Dayton area high school athletes to race at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. GunderKline walked in a very competitive men’s field and recorded a personal record time for the one-mile race of 7:11.46. That time allowed him to capture fourth place overall and his first All American ranking of the weekend.

Sunday, at the famous 169th Street Armory, site of the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame, GunderKline would improve both his place and time. Dropping his one mile personal record nearly another two seconds, he grabbed third place overall in 7:09.47. Over the course of his race walking career, GunderKline has finished sixth, seventh, fourth and third at the Indoor National Championships, improving his time with each outing.
