Add your voice to manager search

By attending next week’s public forum, Yellow Springers will in several ways help Village Council find the best person to be our town’s next Village manager. Those who attend will contribute by asking questions, giving the candidate a sense of community priorities, evaluating the candidates’ performances and offering Council members an opportunity to see the candidates interact with the village.

While Council ultimately makes Village decisions, the manager plays a significant role in our community life. His or her experience, areas of expertise and sensibilities can shape the way Council understands and responds to the critical issues faced by our town. The more people who participate in these forums, the more opportunities each candidate has to reveal his or her personality, talents and strengths and weaknesses.

Finalist Mark Cundiff, the current planning director of Troy, will be the first finalist to come to town next Tuesday, Oct. 7. Villagers may engage with him at the public forum at 7 p.m. at the Bryan Center rooms A and B. Finalists Nancy Benroth of Bluffton and Randy Bukas of Germantown will each visit one of the following two Mondays, Oct. 13 or Oct. 20.

Villagers pride themselves, rightly, for the vitality of our community discourse. There is no more important time than now to take part in that discourse, so that Council can, with our help, make the best choice.
