| Big winds from Hurricane
Ike slammed into Yellow Springs on Sunday, leaving uprooted trees,
such as downed maples at Mills Lawn School, below left, and one that
landed on the Walnut Street home of Chris and Cindy Mucher, bottom.
Power was out for about 42 hours downtown. But villagers made the
best of a bad situation: local musicians entertained the caffeinated
crowd at the Emporium on Tuesday morning. Shown, from left, are Carl
Schumacher and Dave Schumacher on guitar and Mark DeLozier and Elizabeth
Price at the piano. |

Lori Deal cut Joe Williams’ hair using natural light outside
her Xenia Avenue shop.
