OBITUARIES
Monica Freeman
Monica P. Freeman, of Yellow Springs, died on Sunday,
August 31. She was 41. Born Oct. 7, 1966, in Newport News, Va., she was
a graduate of Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University. Monica
attended Central Chapel AME Church in Yellow Springs. She is survived
by her mother and stepfather, Gloria (Phillips) and John Pamplin; father,
Calvin Freeman; one brother, John Pamplin II; aunt Cora (Tyrone, Sr.)
Callis; three cousins, Kimya, Katina, and Tyrone, Jr. Callis; and numerous
other relatives. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Herman
and Sarah Phillips and paternal grandparents Robert and Lillian Freeman.

Velma Duvall
Velma R. Duvall died on July 30 at the age of 90.
Her family invites villagers to a memorial service to celebrate her life
on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 314
Xenia Avenue.
Jeanne Rice
Jeanne (Adams) Rice died on Aug. 28 in Dayton.
She was 85. Before her death, she wrote: “With much appreciation
to my many thoughtful friends, and to my loving and dedicated family who
have made my life so special.” A family memorial was held on Aug.
30 and she was interred at David’s Cemetery. Memorials may be sent
