OBITUARIES
Jacqueline Greene
Jacqueline (Jackie) D. Greene died suddenly on
May 12. She was 57.
She was born March 3, 1951, to John and Hazel Barton.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Greene; a brother, Howard
Barton; and her parents.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lonnie Davis of Shelbyville,
Tenn., and Cedric and Lisa Davis of Shreveport, La.; a granddaughter,
Benita Davis of Shreveport, La.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Janet
Nelson of Normandy, Tenn., and Juanita and Paul Richardson of Yellow Springs,
Ohio; one brother, John Barton, Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; a niece, Tonia
R. Richardson; a niece and nephew-in-law, Natasha and Ramon Dela Cruz;
and two nephews, Jeffrey and Greg Nelson.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 16, 11 a.m.–noon, at
St. Paul Catholic Church, 308 Phillips Street, Yellow Springs, with funeral
services to follow immediately afterward at noon conducted by Rev. Mr.
Paul E. Richardson. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In
lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Interfaith Hospitality Network,
137 North Detroit Street, Xenia, OH 45385.
Juanita Pettit
Juanita Marie Pettit of Yellow Springs died at
Greene Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 10. She was 77.
She was the only child born to Harry E. and Margaret Brandt on Sept. 5,
1930. She graduated from Parker High School in 1949 and was trained at
NCR Corporation in computer technology in the early 1960s. Juanita was
a life long resident of Dayton, but after the death of her mother in 1993,
she moved to Yellow Springs to be near her daughter and family.
Juanita worked for Kuhns Brothers Company in Dayton as an accountant for
many years. In later years she worked at the Montgomery County Community
Action Agency’s Headstart program and later its senior program.
She was a den mother and a community social worker who was very concerned
with justice for all. In the 1960s she provided secretarial skills to
SCLC for her lifelong friend, the late Rev. David Gilbert, president of
the Dayton SCLC. She was very active in researching the Blue family with
her late uncle Harold Van Horn and with him discovering family revolutionary
war veteran burial grounds in Troy, Ohio, and helping to restore the grounds.
She was a Daughter of the American Revolution.
Juanita was a very devoted and loving mother who instilled determination,
courage and unconditional love for all and was a very strong woman.
Juanita is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Davis and Neal
Crandall; son, Richard Pettit and his partner, Shirley; two grandsons,
Michael Davis and his partner, Victoria, and Giovanni Ramos and his partner,
Sabrina; a great granddaughter, Lilly Ramos; a step-grandson, Benjamin
Crandall and his partner, Heather, of Washington, D.C.; her cat, Elsie,
who was her companion for 16 years; and many friends and other relatives
whom she dearly loved.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The family
is being assisted by the Friends Simple Burial Committee.
Celebration in memory of the life of Ellie Dale
Ellie Dale’s family will hold a celebration of her life at the Friends
Care Center on Saturday, May 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. Any who wish to join
in are welcome. Anyone with a story to tell about Ellie is welcome to
share it.
Please do not send flowers. A fitting tribute to Ellie would be a contribution
to the Friends Care Center.
