Boys win at sectional
Yellow Springs boys basketball advanced to the second round
of the division IV sectional tournament last week after beating Mississiniwa
Valley 57–43 on Saturday, Feb. 16. The Mississiniwa Blackhawks,
seeded 10, gave Yellow Springs a run until the final quarter, when the
Bulldogs outscored their opponents 14–4.
Raphael Allen scored the game high 16 points, followed
by Jeremiah Peacock with 14, Kevin Sikes-Gilbert with 10, Kilan Brown
7, Ryan Newsome 6 and Andy Peters 3.
The Bulldogs finished out their regular season 6–6
in the Metro Buckeye Conference and 10–10 overall. If they beat
number five seeded Franklin-Monroe (9–7) in the second round of
sectionals on Wednesday, Feb. 20, they advance to play the winner of the
Tri-Village/Catholic Central game on Friday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m., at Vandalia.
Girls lose in first round tourney
After drawing a bye in the first round of Division IV sectional
play, the Yellow Springs High School girls basketball team faced second
seed Tri-Village and came up short, losing 46–28 on Thursday, Feb.
14.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season 6–6
in the MBC, and 8–10 in the season overall.
YSHS gives winter sports awards
Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School will
host the winter sports awards program on Thursday, Feb. 28, beginning
at 7 p.m. The ceremony honors athletes who were involved with the past
season’s basketball and swimming teams as well as the cheerleading
squad in grades seven through 12.
