Bulldog Sports Roundup

Boys end season with 2 losses
Yellow Springs High School basketball took hits from two non-conference teams in the final games of the regular season last week when the Bulldogs lost on the road to Dayton Christian 59–46 on Friday, Feb. 8, and then lost again to Bethel 76–64 on Saturday, Feb. 9.

Dayton dominated the game on Friday, ending the half 24–18, and continued to outscore the Bulldogs until the final period. Jeremiah Peacock scored the game high 12 points, while Kilan Brown contributed 10.

Yellow Springs started out ahead against Bethel, ending the first half up 35–32. But a deplorable third quarter in which the ’Dogs scored just four points set the team back beyond recovery. Though Yellow Springs outscored the Bees and had three players in the double digits, the team had dug its hole too deep.

Brown had the team high of 20 points, followed by Kevin Sikes-Gilbert and Raphael Allen, each with 11. Peacock scored 9 for the Bulldogs.

Swimmers end season
The Yellow Springs High School boys and girls swimming teams finished the season with the Irish Invitational hosted by Catholic Central at Wittenberg University on Feb. 1, and sectionals competition last weekend at two different venues. The boys swam at the Centerville sectionals site at the Washington Township Recreation Center last Friday and the girls sectional was hosted by Trotwood Madison on Saturday.

At the Irish Invitational, the Bulldog swimmers won a “fun” tee shirt relay that didn’t count toward the team’s record. Danielle Doubt, Barbara Jewell, Francesco Amighetti, and Zane Reichert practiced exchanges of the shirt for a few minutes prior to the event and won the race by several body lengths. Claire Triplett had an excellent meet swimming best times in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Jewell finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Doubt placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a personal best. Reichert had a good swim in the 100-yard freestyle, then finished sixth in the 100-yard backstroke. Amighetti placed 10th in the 100-yard freestyle.

Jake Kintner had a personal best in the 100-yard breaststroke at the sectional meet. He also had a good swim in the 50-yard freestyle, where he was joined by John Michael Malone, who also raced in the 100-yard freestyle.

In the girls sectional competition on Saturday, the 200-yard medley relay including Miriam Barcus (backstroke), Danielle Doubt (breaststroke), Triplett (butterfly), and Aprile Doubt (freestyle), swam a season-best time by two seconds. Triplett had her best split of the season on her butterfly leg. The same girls swam a best time in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In individual competition, Barcus swam her best time in the 500-yard freestyle, placing 16th and scoring a point for the Bulldogs. She also had a good swim in the 200-yard freestyle. Aprile Doubt dropped six seconds off her best time in the 100-yard breaststroke and swam a fast 50-yard freestyle. Triplett had good performances in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Danielle Doubt swam best times in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. Marlee Layh also had a best time in the 50-yard freestyle.
