points to the Bulldog tally on Friday night but could not stop the
Middletown Christian Eagles from taking home the 59–32 conference
win. |
Girls split games
YSHS hoopster Ashantá Robinson
continues to be a force, whether the Lady Bulldogs win or lose, often
scoring more than any other player on the floor and sometimes more than
the total for the other team. This week she did it again as the Bulldogs
split a pair of home games.
On Monday, Jan. 28, against Troy Christian, Robinson
led both teams with 30 points, but it was not enough to overcome their
opponent’s balanced scoring as the Eagles prevailed 67–34.
On Friday, Feb. 1, Robinson scored a game-high 20 points,
two more than the Middletown Christian team, to lead Yellow Springs to
victory 29–18 on senior night. According to Coach Duncan Thomas,
the Lady Bulldogs played great team defense for the whole game, holding
the Eagles to zero points in the second quarter. The girls are now 8–11
overall and 6–6 in the Metro Buckeye Conference.
Bulldogs fall prey to Eagles
The Yellow Springs High School boys basketball team let the
last home game of the season against Middletown Christian slip away 59–32
on Friday night, Feb. 1. Trailing the Eagles 21–6 after the first
quarter, the Bulldogs came back to outscore their opponents 15–13
in the second period, but could not make up their losses. Two tall Eagle
posts spent the rest of the night pulling down everything but the sky,
and Yellow Springs hardly got its foot back in the door the second half
of the game.
Kilan Brown put up 9 points for the ’Dogs (including
three 3-pointers), and Raphael Allen had 6. Kevin Sikes-Gilbert had 5
and Ryan Newsome 4, while Andrew Ferguson, Jeremiah Peacock, E. Benton
and J. Diebold each had 2 points.

Trail on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. at Brookville. The boys play Mississinawa
Valley on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 3:30 p.m. in Vandalia.
