Bulldog Sports Roundup
Girls drop two home games
Ashanta’ Robinson’s 29 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals were
not enough to lead the Lady Bulldogs to victory at home on Monday night,
Jan. 7, against Dayton Christian. The final score was Dayton Christian
45, Yellow Springs 43 in overtime.
This was the first game without point guard Stephanie Scott (who had a
broken left hand) and the team struggled against the Crusaders’
pressure defense throughout the game. The Bulldogs had a 12–11 lead
after the first quarter, with Robinson scoring 7 of the points. The second
quarter was back and forth with the teams scoring 8 points a piece, with
Robinson scoring another 7. It was Yellow Springs, 20, Dayton Christian,
19 at the half. In the third quarter the Bulldogs committed a number of
unforced turnovers, but managed to maintain their slim lead. The team
finished with 20 turnovers for the game. Robinson had all 12 of the team’s
fourth quarter points, but Dayton Christian scored 14 to tie it at 43
at the end of regulation. The overtime period was a defensive struggle
between the two teams, with no one scoring from the floor. The only points
were two free throws made by Dayton Christian that ended up being the
difference in the game.
In another tough home game without Scott on Thursday, Jan. 10, the team
lost to Miami Valley, 40–34. Ryder Comstock scored 16 points, and
had 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks, Robinson had 10 points and fouled out in
the fourth.
Bulldogs swim at Wayne
The Yellow Springs High School boys and girls swimming teams competed
in the Wayne Invitational held at Wright State University, Saturday, Jan.
5, and at the Shawnee High School Invitational held at Wittenberg University
on Friday, Jan. 11. At the Wayne meet, for the first time this season,
both the boys and the girls had nearly all their swimmers in the water.
The girls team placed eighth and the boys finished 12th among 16 teams
in a very competitive meet. Combining the scores, the Bulldog swimmers
were 10th, ahead of Stivers, Fairborn, Botkins, Miami Valley, Fort Recovery,

was 25th in the 50-meter freestyle and 21st in the 100-meter freestyle.
An abbreviated line-up showed up for the Shawnee meet last Friday. In
individual competition, Barcus swam her personal best time in the 200-meter
freestyle to finish ninth, then swam the 500-meter freestyle, finishing
with a good time in third place, scoring all of Yellow Springs’
points. Doubt had a good performance in the 50-meter freestyle, finishing
eighth, and swam to seventh place in the 100-meter breaststroke. Triplett
had a good performance in the 100-meter freestyle, swimming the event

Aprile Doubt lowered her time in the 50-meter freestyle and swam a strong
100-meter breaststroke. The four girls combined to finish 14th in the
200-meter medley relay. Amighetti and Reichert represented the boys. Amighetti
swam the 200-meter freestyle for the first time this season, then swam
his fastest 100-meter freestyle of the season. Reichert had good performances
in the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke.

warm-ups at 2 p.m.
Recreational youth basketball
signup
Registration for recreational youth basketball will be held Saturday,
Jan. 19, 11 a.m.–noon, at the Bryan Community Center gym. All third
through sixth grade girls and boys are welcome to play. The league’s
focus is on learning basic basketball skills and sportsmanship.
Since the purpose of the registration is to assess players’ skills
and assign them to teams, children should come prepared to play. Coaches
will then contact players’ families to let them know the time of
their first meeting. League play will begin Saturday, Jan. 26, and continue
through mid-March. Children will play 90 minutes each Saturday, beginning
at 9 or 10:30 a.m. High school players are encouraged to help as assistant
coaches and may earn community service learning credit. If unable to attend
registration, for more information, or to help coach, call Lynn Hardman
at 767-8433.
Mills Lawn PTO to host family folk dance night
The Mills Lawn PTO will host a family folk dance on Saturday, Jan. 26,
7–9 p.m., in the Mills Lawn gym. The community is invited. This
dance will be led by Jay Williams, an experienced dancer and instructor,
who has been working with the younger grades in gym this year. Williams
will lead a variety of easy-to-learn dances drawn from Eastern European
cultures.
Participants are asked to bring a canned good for a local Food Bank as
their cost of admission.
