Bulldogs take second in tourney
The Yellow Springs High School boys basketball team finished second at the Cincinnati Lockland tournament on Saturday, Dec. 22. The Bulldogs are now 4–5 for the season and 3–3 in the Metro Buckeye Conference.

The Bulldogs took the first game against Cincinnati Schroder in overtime 71–69. Jeremiah Peacock lead all scorers with 23 points. Ryan Newsome was next with 16, followed by Kilan Brown with 11. Raphael Allen contributed with six rebounds, and Brown had four assists.

The game was tied at 15 at the end of the first quarter, and tied again at 44 at the end of the third quarter. Down three points with 18 seconds left in regulation, Ian Wimberly hit a three-point bucket to tie it one more time at 60. In overtime Peacock had four points, Brown had three and Kevin Sikes-Gilbert and Newsome each had two.

In the championship game against Cincinnati Lockland, the Bulldogs lost 67–57. Falling behind in the second half to 21–29, the Bulldogs outscored Lockland 18–13 in the third quarter but got outscored 20–10 in the fourth and never recovered from too many turnovers and ineffective boxing. Peacock had 12 points.

Swimmers vie for top finish
The Yellow Springs High School girls and boys swimming teams competed in two meets over the holidays. Claire Triplett, the lone girl swimming for the Bulldogs in the Springfield North and Kenton Ridge Panther/Cougar Invitational held at Wittenberg University on Friday Dec. 21, had a strong swim in the 50-meter freestyle, finishing 27th out of 73 swimmers in the event. She came in 16th in the 100-meter backstroke.

Four Yellow Springs boys swam in the meet. Zane Reichert (backstroke), Francesco Amighetti (breaststroke), Jake Kintner (butterfly), and John Michael Malone (freestyle) placed ninth in the 200-meter medley relay, just one place out of the scoring. The same foursome finished in fourth place in the 400-meter freestyle relay to pick up 10 points for the team.

In individual competition for the boys, Amighetti placed 22nd in the 50-meter freestyle and 16th in the 100-meter breaststroke. Reichert came in 9th in both the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke, again just one place out of the scoring. Malone finished 25th in the 50-meter freestyle and 16th in the 100-meter freestyle. Kintner placed 26th in the 50-meter freestyle and 17th in the 100-meter breaststroke.

At the Dayton Christian Invitational held at Wright State University, Friday Dec. 28, Miriam Barcus (backstroke), Danielle Doubt (breaststroke), Natalie Sanders (butterfly), and Barbara Jewell (freestyle) placed third in the 200-meter medley relay. The same four were disqualified in the 400-meter freestyle relay due to a premature start on an exchange.

In individual competition, Sanders came in second in the 100-meter freestyle and first in the 100-meter breaststroke. Doubt swam to fourth place in both the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter breaststroke. Barcus placed fifth in both the 100-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke. Jewell came in third in the 100-meter freestyle. The girls placed fourth overall out of nine teams.

With only three boys available, the Bulldogs could not field relay teams. In individual competition, Reichert placed 6th in the 100-meter freestyle to score a point, then finished 5th in the 100-meter backstroke to score two more points. Amighetti came in 11th in the 50-meter freestyle with a personal best time and was 12th in the 100-meter breaststroke. Kintner was 17th in the 50-meter freestyle and 13th in the 100-meter breaststroke.
