Bulldog Sports Roundup

Down by 3 points at the end of the third quarter, Yellow Springs outscored Middletown Christian 11 to 5 to win a tough road game 32–29 on Monday, Dec. 17. The Lady Bulldogs lost to Cincinnati Christian 40–34 on Thursday, Dec. 20, to bring their record to 5–6 overall, 4–2 in the Metro Buckeye Conference.

Against Middletown, clutch shooting by freshman guard Alex Beer (7 points for the game) in the fourth quarter and clutch free throw shooting by Stephanie Scott (10 points for the game) and Ashanta’ Robinson (11 points for the game) sealed the deal for the Lady Bulldogs. The defensive pressure that was applied in the fourth quarter was just what the team needed to gain the win.

“We are a young team that must continue to improve on our defensive intensity to reach that next level,” Coach Duncan Thomas said. “We are getting there, but it takes time.”

Against Cincinnati, Yellow Springs was short handed and plagued by poor shooting and foul problems which took their toll on the Lady Bulldogs. Two players played with four fouls for the entire second half, while a third fouled out with four minutes left in the third quarter. Robinson led the team with 20 points, but it was not enough to offset the scoring of Sarah Carroll, with 14 points, and 6’ 2” Naomi Byrd with 12. Yellow Springs shot 10 out of 22 in foul shooting.

“Though we were short handed, the girls played hard, and I am proud of them,” Thomas said.
