Bulldog Sports Roundup

The Yellow Springs High School boys basketball players lost the only game it played last week 63–52 to Troy Christian on Friday, Dec. 14. The Bulldogs are now 3–3 for the season, 2–2 in the Metro Buckeye Conference.

Conference rival Troy jumped up 20–10 in the first quarter, but despite a slow start by the Bulldogs, by the end of the third quarter Yellow Springs had taken a 44–43 lead. The Eagles then came back to outscore the ’Dogs 20 to 8 in the fourth quarter for the win. Double-figure scorers for the Bulldogs were Kilan Brown with 19 points and Jeremiah Peacock with 11.

Girls basketball falls to Troy
The girls basketball team took an early 2–1 lead on the road against the Troy Christian Eagles on Thursday, Dec. 13. The Lady Bulldogs hung tough for the first five minutes before turnovers, missed free-throws and missed opportunities brought them down. At the half, it was 15–6 in favor of Troy Christian. The Eagles came out in the second session moving the ball extremely well, often finding an open shooter to take the three-pointer. According to Yellow Springs Coach Duncan Thomas, the Lady Bulldogs played great defense, but just couldn’t get the offense rolling.

Ashanta’ Robinson led Yellow Springs scorers with 12 points, followed by eight points from Stephanie Scott. The final score was Troy Christian 46–24. The loss brings the girls record to 5–4.

8th grade boys basketball update
The eighth grade boys basketball team is undefeated after four games with wins against Middletown Christian (45–37), Xenia Christian (35–20), Miami Valley (35–19), and Middletown Christian (32–22). Ameer Wagner leads the team in scoring with a total of 56 points.

Alumni tourney begins Dec. 28

The Yellow Springs High School annual alumni basketball tournament will take place this year on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28 and 29. The first game will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28.

The teams, organized by graduating class, are as follows: classes of 1986 and below; classes of 1987–1993; classes of 1994–1998; classes of 1999–2001; classes of 2002–2003; class of 2004; class of 2005; and the classes of 2006–2007.

The game schedule is as follows: On Friday, Dec. 28, at 5 p.m., ’05–’07 vs. ’87–’93; at 6 p.m., ’94–’98 vs. ’99–’01; at 7 p.m., ’86 and before will play the winner of the 5 p.m. game; at 8 p.m., ’04 vs. ’02–’03.

On Saturday, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m. the winners of Friday’s 6 p.m game will play the winners of Friday’s 8 p.m. game. The tournament finals is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. that evening. The tournament bracket is also posted in the high school gym.
