The girls medley relay team placed 10th, with Claire Triplett swimming backstroke, Danielle Doubt breaststroke, Natalie Sanders butterfly, and Miriam Barcus freestyle.

Girl hoopsters rebound with wins
Though the results of the YSHS girls basketball games haven’t been reported regularly, the Lady Bulldogs are pulling through a tough season. They began in late November with a string of losses to Belmont, Fairborn, Dayton Christian, and Greenon, but managed to defeat Miami Valley. Poised for change, the team then rebounded to begin December with two strong wins against Xenia Christian and Jefferson. The girls are 5–3 for the season.

Against Belmont on Nov. 20, Yellow Springs lost 56–33. Missing two starters, the Lady Bulldogs stuttered to find a groove and gave up the game with 38 turnovers. Bulldog freshman Stephanie Scott led the team with 12 points.

Against a very tall Fairborn team on Nov. 24, Yellow Springs lost 82–42. Ashanta’ Robinson led the team with 23 points, nine rebounds, followed by Stephanie Scott with 11 points.

Against Dayton Christian on Nov. 26 the Lady Bulldogs gave up a 42–34 defeat. Robinson led the team with 19 points, followed by Scott with 9.

The Lady Bulldogs finally got their chance to shine on Nov. 29 against Miami Valley and went away with their first 49–41 win. Robinson again led the team with 21 points and nine steals, followed by Scott with 13 points.

Against Greenon on Dec. 1, Yellow Springs took another hit, falling 58–48 to the Lady Knights. Yellow Springs played good team defense, doing a decent job of containing Greenon’s senior guard, who scored 25 points despite their efforts. Scott led the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points, followed by Robinson with 10.

Led by veteran Ashanta’ Robinson’s 26 points and nine steals, the Lady Bulldogs overpowered the Xenia Christian Ambassadors 61–31 at their place on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Freshman point guard Stephanie Scott followed with a near triple double, 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

At home against Jefferson on Thursday, Dec. 6, Yellow Springs had a tougher time of it, but Robinson’s 19 points and Scott’s 12 points led the Lady Bulldogs to a 46–42 victory. The home team took a 10 point lead late in the game. But Scott fouled out with four minutes to go, and Jefferson applied a full court press to cut the margin. Veterans Robinson and Ryder Comstock regained control of the game and preserved the win.

Next games: Dec. 13 at Troy Christian, 6/7:30 p.m.; Dec. 17 at Middletown Christian, 6/7:30 p.m.; Dec. 20 at Cincinntai Christian, TBA.

Boys ball gives up two
The YSHS boys basketball team beat Xenia Christian last week before suffering two consecutive losses to Metro Buckeye Conference rival Jefferson on Friday, Dec. 7, and Stivers on Saturday, Dec. 8. The team is now 3–2 for the season.

Against league foe Xenia on Tuesday, Dec. 4, Ryan Newsome set the Bulldogs on fire by scoring 15 points to jump the team ahead 21–13 in the first quarter. Yellow Springs outscored the Ambassadors in every period to end the game with a resounding 67–46 victory. Kilan Brown led the team with 19 points.

But Friday night was all about trying to stop a Jefferson team whose towering posts converted every rebound and never gave the Bulldogs a chance. Trailing by an average of three points most of the game, the Bulldogs held their own until the fourth quarter when the Broncos outscored Yellow Springs 23–10 to end the game ahead 73–51 with a full press.

The Bulldogs gave up the following night’s game against Stivers 72–65. The Bulldogs held up to end the first half 35–34, but could not maintain its composure. Newsome led the team with 17 points, followed by Kevin Sikes-Gilbert and Jeremiah Peacock, each with 12.

Next games: Dec. 14 vs. Troy Christian, 5 p.m.; Dec. 18 vs. Dayton Christian, 6 p.m.
