Bulldog sports roundup

Soccer team felled by Beavers
In a slow week for the YSHS boys soccer team, the Bulldogs travelled to Beavercreek Thursday, Sept. 27, to challenge the Division I school ranked number 22 in the country.

Five minutes into the match, Beavercreek scored from 20 yards out to take the lead. Despite heavy offensive pressure by Yellow Springs for the last 15 minutes of the first half, the score remained 1-0 Beavers at halftime.

Play in the second half was fairly even with both teams creating some good looks at the goal, but only Beavercreek was able to convert as goalkeeper, Alex Turner, lost his footing in the mud and couldn’t get to the ball. The 2–0 loss brought the ’Dogs’ record to 10–2–1 overall and 3–0–0 in the Metro Buckeye Conference.

Football falls back to earth
As if they couldn’t stand too much success after pulling one out in the fourth quarter last week, the YSHS football team lost big to Waynesfield Goshen at home on Friday night.

Time of possession was a big factor in the first quarter as the Bulldogs couldn’t hold onto the ball long enough to keep the Tigers from scoring two touchdowns. The second quarter brought a measure of success for Yellow Springs as Josh Foster recovered a Tiger fumble and took the ball over 60 yards for a touchdown. But the Bulldogs failed to complete the extra point, making it 14–6 Tigers.

That was as close as the ’Dogs would get as the Tigers regained their composure and took control of the game. The final score was 54–6 Waynesfield Goshen.

Golfers finish middle of pack
Yellow Springs shot a 374 and placed seventh out of 13 teams at the boys Division III Sectional golf tournament at the Moss Creek Golf Course in Trotwood on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

The top four teams qualify for the district tournament. The top four individual scorers also qualify for a spot in the district tournament for the individual competition.

Joe Fugate (86) tied for the fourth spot, but lost in a sudden death playoff. Carl Wiener also just missed with an 87. Other Yellow Springs scores were: Lucas Donnell 100, John Malone 101, and Max Fleishman 106.

Volleyball routs Jefferson
The Yellow Springs volleyball team made short work of Jefferson’s Lady Broncos three games to none in a home match Monday, in which the Lady Bulldogs won all three games 25–3, 25–7, 25–8. The victory improved their record to 5–10.
