Youth win Fun Run
Siblings Tina and Andy Peters won the individual
male and female titles at the 24th Annual Village Fun Run on Sunday, Aug.
18. Andy Peters, a senior at Yellow Springs High School, toured the 2-mile
circuit on the streets of Yellow Springs in 10:30 for the win over a field
of 50 runners, joggers and walkers. Evan Firestone, a YSHS graduate, was
runner-up in 11:01 and Jacob GunderKline, a junior at YSHS, came in third
in 11:11.
Christina Peters, also a YSHS graduate, finished 13th
overall to claim the top spot among the women in 13:21, while Kai Cobles
took second in 13:36. YSHS freshman Allison Berry won the scholastic division,
placing third in 13:50.
In the junior high divisions Nate Reed claimed the
boys’ title, finishing 20th overall in 14:00. Reed Jacobsen was
second. Seventh grader Lois Miller won the junior high girls’ title
in 15:20. Paloma Wiggins was second.
Elementary school titles went to Megan Stetler in the
fourth through sixth grade division and Colton Johnson in the kindergarten
through third grade category.
Philip Bottelier won the 35 to 39 division in 12:30,
and Cindy Sieck took the same title on the women’s side in 15:55.
Kirsten Skaggs took the 40-49 women’s title in 21:29 with Mike Duncy,
seventh overall in 12:14, claiming the men’s title.
YSHS running coach Vince Peters won the 50 and over
category in 14:01, with both Gary Dixon and Dave Finster just seconds
behind.
Golf team takes to the road
The Yellow Springs High School golf team weathered
some travel last week, falling to Greeneview on Thursday, Aug. 16, and
coming in 13th of 19 teams at the Northridge Invitational on Aug. 17.
The Bulldogs came in a close third at the Germantown trimatch on Aug.
20. Their season record is 1–4.
Against Greeneview at the Sebastion Hills Golf Course,
Yellow Springs scored a total of 211, while Greeneview held itself at
188. Max Fleishman shot a 43 for the second lowest score, while Joe Fugate
shot a 48 for the fourth lowest score. The Greene-view players shot a
41 and a 44 for first and third place.
For the Northridge invite at Kittyhawk Golf Course
in Dayton, Fugate shot an 89, while Carl Wiener shot 90 for a team total
of 384 and a 13th place finish.
Miami Valley School won the Germantown matches at Jamaica
Run Golf Course with a combined score of 170. Middletown Christian was
second with 190, and Yellow Springs shot 196. Fugate shot a 44 for a fifth-place
medal.
