OBITUARIES

a short illness. She was 89.
Ruth was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Alma, Ark. Ruth graduated from the University
of the Ozarks in 1940 where she majored in music. She performed as a soloist
and with college vocal ensembles and with her beautiful coloratura soprano
voice, was offered opportunities to sing professionally. She chose, however,
to pursue a career in teaching and followed her sisters west to Wyoming
and Colorado.
Ruth taught school in Laramie and Las Animas, Colo., and through mutual
friends met a young GI from Wisconsin. They were married in 1946 and later,
with two young children in tow, they headed back to Wisconsin in 1949.
The couple moved to a farm in Vesper in 1952 and later, with her children
in school, Ruth resumed her teaching career. She taught sixth grade from
1959 to 1982, when she retired. In retirement she was active with the
Garden Club, the Riverview Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and the
Church of Christ in Stevens Point.
She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a gifted teacher and

welcomed all. She will be deeply missed by her family, her wonderful neighbors
