sports Bulldog sports roundup Borchers sets state record Borchers took the lead as the field passed through the half mile and stayed there through the third lap with several runners attempting to hang on in his draft. Then Borchers changed gears and moved away from the field with a final lap in 58 seconds. Only the Ohio High School Division I State Champion Jake Edwards of Delaware Hayes High School could stay close enough to take the runner-up spot in 4:11.64. The meet featured some of the best distance runners from Ohio, Michigan and Tennessee, including several other Bulldogs. In the seeded section of the 3200 meter run, Evan Firestone set a personal best for himself by finishing in 9:53.45 for eighth place. Andy Peters and Brock GunderKline took on the competition in the unseeded 3200 run, with Peters taking 13th overall and GunderKline placing 20th. The relay squad of Jake and Brock GunderKline, Anthony Pettiford and Peters concluded the evening’s racing with a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run. Baseball gets shutout over Xenia Yellow Springs drilled Xenia by a score of 22–0 in a game that only lasted four innings because the Ambassadors ran out of pitchers. Andrew Ferguson gave up only two hits in tossing the shutout. At the plate the team belted out 20 hits, and perfect days were enjoyed by Todd Sheets, who went four for four and had 6 RBI, Kilan Brown, who was three for three with two walks and scored five times, and Ben Armstrong, who was also three for three. Jonathon Haller had two doubles and 6 RBI also. All 18 players saw action in the game. Monday Yellow Springs hosted Troy in a make-up game. Sheets pitched very well, and Armstrong got the only Bulldog hit, a double in the third inning. Rains washed out the rest of the week, cancelling games against Northridge, Troy and Jefferson scheduled for April 23, 24 and 25. It’s tournament time again, and the Bulldogs will travel to Cedarville on Monday, May 7, to take on the Indians in the first round of tournament at 5 p.m. There will be a $5 admission charged to see the game. Tennis team wins 2 Against Sidney Lehman, Olivia Chen, Alex Turner and Eduardo Gallifa won their singles courts handily, but both doubles teams of Erin Silvert-Noftle/Kyle Buchwalder and Raphael Allen/Zac Katz-Stein lost in straight sets. At Springfield Catholic Central, Chen took the first court 6–3,6–2, while Turner keyed up for a 6–4,6–0 win at second singles. Silvert-Noftle stepped up to singles for the first time this season to take home a 6–4, 6–0 victory. Emile Fleming and Raphael Allen pushed to three sets with a tie break in the first, but just missed the win. And another first of the season was Asa Casenheiser coming on board with the Bulldogs to play second doubles with Aiysha Walker.
