Baseball opens with tight loss

The Yellow Springs high school baseball team opened its season with a heartbreaking loss at home to Cedarville 4–2 on Monday, March 26. Andrew Ferguson pitched a complete game, gave up only six hits and struck out nine. The Bulldogs took a 2–0 lead in the bottom of the fifth with hits from Ben Armstrong, Kilan Brown and Todd Sheets. Unfortunately, Cedarville loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth and their star player hit a 3-run double to win the game for them.

Softball loses to Cedarville
The Lady Bulldog softball team opened their season the same day and lost 23–3 to Cedarville. Lauren Miles pitched the first three innings, striking out two batters and only walking one. Unfortunately Cedarville cut through the Yellow Springs defense to score 15 runs in those innings.

Bailey Linse pitched the last two innings of this five-inning game without strikeouts or walks, and the defense picked up speed; however, there were still 6 unearned runs scored by the Indians with a few hits sprinkled in among them.

The offense started off better this year, scoring 1 run in the fourth inning and 2 more in the bottom of the fifth. Linse and Miles both had two hits with Ashanta Robinson walking and advancing on pass balls and eventually stealing home on a terrific play. Sarah Morrison also had a single during the fifth-inning rally.

First-game jitters might have had an effect on this relatively young team, according to coach Jack Gaul, but the Lady Bulldogs held their sights on a potential win until the end.
