Bulldog sports round up

Girls basketball takes Middletown
The Lady Bulldogs took down conference foes from Middletown Christian 36–30 on Thursday, Feb. 1. The game against Jefferson on Feb. 5 was cancelled, leaving Yellow Springs at 10–7 for the season, and 9–3 in the league.

Middletown took off in the first quarter, holding the Lady ’Dogs to 6 points, but by halftime, the score was an even 16. The two teams kept pace with each other in the third quarter before Yellow Springs pulled ahead with 14 points in the final period. Ashanta’ Robinson scored the game-high 12 points, while Ryder Comstock put up 10 points and Jessica Kellar had 8.

Boys basketball beats Xenia
The Yellow Springs High School boys basketball team beat Xenia Christian 57–51 at home on Tuesday, Jan. 30, before succumbing 64–28 to Troy Christian on Friday, Feb. 2.

Against the Xenia Ambassadors, the Bulldogs pulled ahead 14–10 in the first quarter and then fell back while Xenia took the lead at 30–24 at the halftime. But Yellow Springs managed to hold the Ambassadors to just 4 points in the third, while racking up 17 points to take the dominating position for the rest of the game. Ryan Newsome and Kilan Brown each scored 15 points, and Kevin Sikes-Gilbert scored 10.

Troy took a commanding lead from the start of Friday’s game and burned through a 33–11 lead by halftime. Troy racked up eight 3-pointers for the night. Brown shot 11 points for the ’Dogs.

Reduced-price admission tickets

Thanks to the generosity of a group of local residents interested in boosting spectators at school sports events, students in Yellow Springs Schools grades 1–12 are eligible to purchase reduced-price presale tickets to basketball games this season. Each presale ticket will cost $1 and may be used for any home basketball game. Students will still pay regular admission prices at the door if they choose not to buy presale tickets.

Presale tickets may be purchased individually or in bulk and may only be used by Yellow Springs students. Tickets will be available at 8:45 a.m. and 3:25 p.m. most weekdays from the athletic director. The program will be in effect for an undetermined length of time.
