OBITUARIES
Leatha Piercy
Leatha Annabelle Feeler Piercy of San Antonio,
Texas, died Saturday, Nov. 18. She was 81.
She was born on July 15, 1925, in Meridian, Idaho,
to Carl F. and Charlotte E.L. Feeler. Leatha married the love of her life,
Jeff Johnston Piercy, in Carthage, Mo., in April 1944. They enjoyed over
62 years together. Leatha was a beautiful Air Force wife and homemaker
whose travels crossed the world with her husband for 30 years. She held
positions and was active in many Air Force officers’ wives clubs.
She always put the needs of her family first and her husband and daughters
gratefully acknowledge her constant help and support in pursuing their
military careers. She did volunteer work for children’s causes and
deeply cared for all animals.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff J. Piercy, lieutenant
colonel, USAF, (retired) of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Ann Lisa Piercy,
major, USAF, (retired) of Yellow Springs; daughter, Jeanne L. Perez, chief,
USCG, (retired) and husband, Mark J. Perez, chief, USCG, (retired) and
grandsons, Thomas and Michael of Alameda, Calif.; sister, Bonnie Stein
of Nampa, Idaho; brother, Carl E. and wife, Donna Feeler of Meridian,
Idaho; brother, Jay and wife, Thelma Feeler of Nampa, Idaho; and numerous
nephews and nieces.
A graveside committal service was held Friday, Nov.
24, at the Hackney Cemetery, Carthage, Mo., officiated by Rev. Matthew
G. Roberts, First Presbyterian Church. Friends were received at the Piercy
family farm following the service.
A private memorial service for close friends was held
in San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 21, at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made
to an animal charity of your choice in Leatha’s name. The Piercy
family gratefully acknowledges all condolences and memorial donations.
Virginia Martin
Virginia L. (Hamilton) Martin of Yellow Springs, passed
away Friday, Jan. 26, in Friends Care Center. She was 91.
She was born in Yellow Springs on May 1, 1915, the
daughter of William Ernest and Myrtle Ann (Benning) Hamilton. She lived
in Yellow Springs until her marriage to Thorton Martin in January 1937,
and was a house wife for 31 years until the passing of her husband in
1968. She remained in Springfield and worked as a housekeeper for 25 years.
Then she moved to Atlanta, Ga., in 1993 for 11 years, then moved to St.
Louis, Mo. for a short time in 2004. She moved back to Yellow Springs
where she remained until her death.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Thorton
Martin; her parents; two brothers, Robert H. Hamilton and Raleigh Eugene
Hamilton; three sisters, Edith Josephine Hamilton Scott, Vencil W. Hamilton
Riddle and Ernestine L. Hamilton Gaines; and one grandson, Ben Robinson.
She is survived by her daughter, Ava Ann Robinson of
St. Louis, Mo.; two grandsons, Eric Robinson and MyKal Smith of St. Louis;
six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Zip) Hamilton Sr. of Yellow
Springs; three cousins, Charles Benning of Springfield, Donald Benning
of Yellow Springs and Andrew Benning of Enon; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday, Feb. 5, 11:30 a.m., until
the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. in the Jackson Lytle Williams Funeral
Home, Yellow Springs. Burial will follow in Glen Forest Cemetery.
