Dorothea Frances Lounsbury
Dorothea Frances Lounsbury of Ann Arbor, Mich., passed
away on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the home she shared with her family. She
was 87.
Dorothea was born on July 20, 1919, in Detroit, Mich.,
the daughter of Mildred and Walter Eggers. She was the oldest of three
children who included a brother, Gordon, and a sister, Loretta.
Dorothea graduated from Sullivan High School in Chicago
where she met John Lounsbury Sr. whom she married in 1943. The couple
moved from Chicago to Yellow Springs, and eventually to Ann Arbor in 1960
where they finished raising their three sons.
In 1969 John’s career moved them to -Arizona
where she became an active volunteer at the Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.
In 2001 John and Dorothea returned to Michigan to be near their family.
John preceded her in death in 2003 after 60 years of
marriage.
Dorothea was a loving wife, mother and grandmother
who will be greatly missed by her three sons and a daughter-in-law, John
Lounsbury, Craig Lounsbury, and Jim and Jules Lounsbury; four grandchildren,
David, Lindsey, Casey and Allison; and one great grandchild, Morgan.
Dorothea’s sons and granddaughters would like
to thank her for giving them the honor and privilege to have cared for
her these last two and a half years.

Eloise Carr
Eloise Carr of Yellow Springs died Tuesday Nov. 28.
She was 90.
She was born Dec. 17, 1915, to Robert and Ethel (Mitchell)
White in Cedarville. Eloise was a member of the Cedarville Baptist Church
and also a Sunday school superintendent. She was a very special lady who
was loved and admired by her family and many people in the community and
will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Carr;
her parents; and her children, John Edward Carr, Clara and Charles Hamilton
and Frances and William Harris.
Eloise is survived by her son and daughter-in-law,
Kenneth and Karen Carr Jr. of Clifton; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren;
two great-great grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty
and Charles Thompson of Wilberforce.
Services were held Saturday, Dec. 2, 11 a.m., in the
First Baptist Church of Yellow Springs with interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Leonard Harshaw
Leonard Harshaw of Xenia passed away Friday, Dec. 1,
in Greene Memorial Hospital. He was 78.
He was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Nashville, Tenn., the
son of George G. and Octavia (Smith) Harshaw. He was retired from Wright-Patterson
Air Force Base as a configuration and data manager.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having
received a purple heart, and was a faithful member of the Central Chapel
AME Church in Yellow Springs, where he served on the usher board and the
steward board. He was a member of the Springfield Turf Club and had been
inducted into the Springfield Clark County Baseball Hall of Fame and North
Carolina A&T University Sports Hall of Fame. He also participated
in many civic organizations through his life time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters,
Geraldine “Gerri” Johnson and Hildreath Anderson and one brother,
George “Rip” Harshaw.
Leonard is survived by his loving and devoted wife
of 53 years, Nannie “Nan” M. Harshaw; his children, -Stephanie
Lynn and Kaner Butler of Yellow Springs, Edward and Betty Harshaw Sr.
of Wildwood, N.J., and Steven L. and Yvonne -Harshaw of Xenia; two sisters,
Joan -Bronston and Wanda Echols, both of Springfield; one brother and
sister-in-law, Leroy and Almeda Harshaw of Xenia; eight grandchildren,
Edward Harshaw Jr., Lana -Harshaw, Christina Harshaw, all of Wildwood,
N.J., Nolan Matthew Harshaw of Xenia, Aaron Reporter-Harshaw, Kennedy
Anne Harshaw-Butler, Sierra Nicole Butler and Kaner Butler IV, all of
Yellow Springs; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 11
a.m., in the Central Chapel AME in Yellow Springs. Burial followed in
Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leonard’s
memory to the Central Chapel AME Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Jonathan Warner Harshman
Jonathan Warner Harshman, D.V.M., of Beavercreek passed
away Tuesday, Nov. 28, at home on his farm following a short illness.
He was 80.
Jonathan was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Dayton. He graduated
from Beavercreek High School in 1943, and attended Ohio State University,
inspiring a lifelong love of Buckeye football. After serving in the U.S.
Navy in World War II, “Doc” Harshman received his doctorate
of veterinary medicine from Ohio State University and began practicing
in Xenia after a brief stint working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) in Dayton. He then spent 25 years treating pets and touching the
lives of many Greene County residents until his retirement in 1978.
Following his retirement, he worked with the USDA in
Pennsylvania for eight years. Always up to a new challenge, he then turned
a hobby of growing apples into a business, running the Harshman Apple
Orchard in Beavercreek until his death. He was a member of the Knights
of Pythias and the Beaver Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Hower
and Kathryn (Warner) Harshman; and his eldest daughter, -Constance Whisman.
He will be lovingly remembered for his spirit and wonderful
character by his wife of 58 years, Jean (Burtch) -Harshman; son and daughter-in-law,
John and Paula -Harshman; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Chelsie
Bush, formerly of Yellow Springs; son-in-law, Victor Whisman; and seven
grandchildren, including Kate Bush of Yellow Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions
be made to the American Heart Society.
Edward J. Fiessinger Jr.
Edward J. Fiessinger Jr., of Clifton passed away Monday,
Dec. 4. He was 80.
He was born March 4, 1926, to Edward J. Sr. and Mary
(Miller) Fiessinger in Springfield, Ohio.
Edward retired from Hyland Machine after 41 years of
employment and was also the police chief of Clifton for 15 years.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, and sister,
MaryLou Fiessinger.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth (Myers)
Fiessinger; children and their spouses, Robert Mark and Kimberly Fiessinger
of Kansas, William Matthew Fiessinger, and James Earl and Anola Fiessinger,
all of Ohio; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters and
a brother-in-law, Catherine Fiessinger, and Patricia and Richard Wysong,
all of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7,
10 a.m., in the Jackson Lytle Williams Funeral Home. Interment will follow
in Glen Forest Cemetery.
