OBITUARIES
Sandra D. Jaynes
Sandra D. Jaynes of Xenia passed away Saturday, Nov.
18, at her residence. She was 68.
She was born Nov. 4, 1938, in West Liberty, Ohio, the
daughter of Charles and Cleo Webb Walters. She retired from -Yellow Springs
Instrument.
Sandy was a very gifted artist and taught at the Decorative
Artist Group of Southwest Ohio. She was also very active in HOOT, or the
Heart of Ohio Tole. She attended the convention every year in Columbus
and will be sadly missed by all of her former students.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother,
Charles “Buddy” Walters.
She is survived by her husband, Keith A. Jaynes, whom
she married Nov. 22, 1971; daughter, Melodee Caudill of Xenia; granddaughter
and her spouse, Jamie and Jon Keblesh of Toledo; great-granddaughter,
Brylee Kay Keblesh; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Lee Ison
of Xenia, and DeDe and Artie Lovejoy of Wilmington; brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Carl and Betty Jaynes of Jefferson City, Mo., and Bob
and Robin Jaynes of Paintersville.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 25,
at the Neeld Funeral Home, Xenia, with visitation to be held from 5 to
8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Contributions may
be made to the Xenia Township Fire Department #1, 8 Brush Row Road, Xenia,
OH 45385.
John G. Martin
John G. Martin of Yellow Springs passed away suddenly
at his home on Nov. 19. He was 62.
John was a graduate of Oakwood High School and Wright
State University. He was a chemist at Vernay Laboratories in Yellow Springs
and had recently retired after 34 years.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert
and Marjorie Martin and his first wife, Helen.
John is survived by his wife of 23 years, Christina
Check Martin; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Martin and Kathryn -Carpenter
of Seattle; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Gus Walgren of Detroit;
brothers, Peter Martin of Bellbrook and Stephen Martin of Oakwood; sisters,
Susan Crocker of Syracuse, N.Y., and Cathy McCrummen of Jonesboro, Ga.;
mother-in-law, Livia Check Baker of Xenia, as well as many other relatives.
There will be no services; however, a celebration of
John’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests donations in John’s memory to the Riding Centre
in Yellow Springs, or to an organization of your choice.
Valeska Appleberry
Valeska Becker Appleberry died peacefully, surrounded
by family, during the evening of Nov. 18, at Friends Care Community. She
was 93.
A biographical sketch of her life will follow in next
week’s Yellow Springs News. A memorial service will be held Jan.
6, 2007, in Yellow Springs.
James Newcomer
James E. Newcomer of Spring Valley passed away Wednesday,
Nov. 15, at his residence. He was 56.
He was born May 26, 1950, in Xenia, the son of Paul
A. and Laura Louise Pratt Newcomer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,
Paul A. Newcomer Jr. and Charles J. Newcomer.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert
P. and Sharon Newcomer of Xenia; and nieces and nephews, Charles Newcomer
of Houston, Texas; Maria Newcomer of Yellow Springs, Michele Wallace of
Houston, Matthew Newcomer, Rapid City, S.D., and Ashley Newcomer, Onida,
S.D.; and several great-nephews.
Graveside services were held at Woodland Cemetery,
Xenia, on Friday, Nov. 17.
