OBITUARIES

David Ridenour

David O. Ridenour of Springfield died Tuesday, April 4, in the Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla. He was 71.

He was born July 21, 1934, in Springfield, the son of Orville E. and Ercile (Cutshall) Ridenour. He was a farmer and raised cattle for many years. Dave retired after 38 years of service in the safety and security force at Navistar. He attended First Christian Church in Haines City, Fla., and in Springfield.

He was a volunteer firefighter for the Hustead Fire Department. He enjoyed spending winters in Lake Alfred, Fla., with his wife of 51 years, Marsha (Clark) Ridenour.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, -Sherrie and John Saultz of Portland, Ore., Terri and Stephen Sparling of Newcomerstown, Larry and Jill Ridenour of Springfield and Barry and Mary Ann -Ridenour of Monroe; sister, Carol Patterson of Portland, Maine; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 11, at the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home. Burial was in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1130 Vester Avenue, Suite G, Springfield 45503; or Hustead Fire Department, 6215 Springfield Xenia Road, 45502.

Lela A. Wollum

Lela A. Wollum died Sunday, April 9, at Friends Care Community. She was 74.

She was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Springfield, the daughter of Jessie J. and Hope (Heininger) Baker. Lela was a member of Maiden Lane Church of God, a former choir member and Sunday School teacher. She was a school bus driver for Greenon Local Schools for 25 years, and a former employee of Young’s Jersey Dairy and Woolworth Company.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Dick Baker; and three sisters, Helen Augustus, Mary Shafer and Nancy Bailey.

She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Wollum; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen Wollum; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Jane Haulman and Ruth Pencil, both of Springfield, and Jo Cox of Lake Alfred, Fla.

Services were held Thursday, April 13, in the Maiden Lane Church of God, with burial following in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Raymond Greene

Raymond Leroy Greene of Xenia died Tuesday, April 11, at Miami Valley Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 68.

He was born in Xenia on Jan. 16, 1938, the son of Charles and Pauline (Hudson) Greene. He retired from Morris Bean & Co. in 1999 with 31 years of service and the Little Brown Jug in Delaware, Ohio, with 38 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Jones) Greene, whom he married Oct. 17, 1957; children and their spouses, Raymond L. Jr. and Casey Greene, Rhonda and Albert Robinson, and Djuna and Kevin Washington; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings and their spouses, Charles and Marvine Greene of Xenia, Shirley V. Elmore of Elk Grove, Calif., Marsha Clark of Dayton, and Shirley and Cleveland Lewis Sr. of Jamestown.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 15, at the First Zion Baptist Church in Jamestown, with burial following at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Xenia.

Jeremy V. Starr

Jeremy V. “Jerry” Starr of Springfield died in the Indianapolis University Hospital. He was 31.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1974, in Silvis, Ill., the son of Truman Starr and Carolee (Cramblett) Dunton. Jerry graduated from Yellow Springs High School.

He had been employed by Auto Zone for more 10 years as a sales manager. He had many hobbies, including drag racing and radio control cars. He loved working on cars and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Truman Starr, and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda (Thompson) Starr; three daughters, Rachelie and Brittany Lively and -Kimberly Starr, all of Springfield; his mother and father, Larry and Carolee Dunton of Springfield; siblings and their spouses, Penny and Bruce Cooper of Iowa, Kevin and Candi Starr of Milford Center, Todd Starr of Illinois and Brad and Mindy Starr of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, April 20, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday, April, 21, 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
