OBITUARIES
Doris Burrer
Former Yellow Springs resident Doris (Gadd) Burrer
died recently in Ocala, Fla., from complications related to cancer. She
was 76.
Doris was born June 28, 1929, in Harrisburg, Pa. She
and her spouse, Frank Burrer, resided in Yellow Springs for 27 years before
relocating to Ocala in 1996.
Doris spent many years working for the Yellow Springs
school system, first as the superintendent’s secretary, then at
the elementary and later the middle school, serving several different
principals on the way. Some have said, “She was the glue that held
things together” during those transitional years.
Many children rotating through the schools during the
1960s and 1970s will remember her presence in the office, whether offering
band-aids for hurt fingers, hugs for hurt feelings or even the occasional
small lecture for misbehavior.
Doris is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frank
Burrer; two sons, Tony Burrer of Dayton and Alan Burrer of Seattle; and
two grandchildren, Loren and Nathaniel.
