OBITUARIES

Francis Cain

Francis Joseph “Joe” Cain of Tipp City died Tuesday, Feb. 14, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 73.

He was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Yellow Springs, the son of Frank and Dorothy (Fuller) Cain.

Joe was the principal at Minster High School for 10 years until he retired. He also taught Latin and social studies at Tippecanoe High School. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and loved golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Cain; and a sister, Alice Cain.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Holtvoigt) Cain; children and their spouses, Robin and Bart Brandewie of Minster, Rhonda and Tim Stark of Plymouth, Minn., and John and Sonya Cain of Cincinnati; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy and Larry O’Connor of Xenia, Dottie Cain of Xenia and Carol Melanson of New Hampshire; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 17, at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home in Tipp City, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County.

Donald Poland

Donald A. Poland of Springfield died Friday, Feb. 17, in Community Hospital. He was 72.

He was born on March 2, 1933, in South Charleston, the son of Carl W. and Lucille V. (Bobst) Poland.

Donald retired as a drafting engineer supervisor with Morris Bean & Co. He was a member of Faith in Christ Lutheran Church; Yellow Springs Masonic Lodge 421 Free and Accepted Masons; Cedarville Lodge 622 F.&A.M.: Shawnee Chapter 237 R.A.M.; Springfield Council 17 R.&S.M.; Palestine Commandry 33 K.T.; Ohio Priory 18 Knight York Cross of Honour; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; Dewey Mustar Council 177 Allied Masonic Degrees; and Neal Chapter 522 Order of Eastern Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan R. (Eaton) Poland; children and their spouses, Douglas Poland of Springfield, David and Kristi Poland of Saegertown, Pa., Vicki and Richard Johnson of Wilmington, and Kathy and Robert Smith of Enon; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home, with burial in Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
