Lady ’Dogs improve to 7–2 The YSHS girls basketball team started the new year off with an exciting 55–42 victory over the Stivers Lady Tigers at home on Tuesday. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 7–2. Yellow Springs spent the first quarter shaking off the rust from winter break. The Lady ’Dogs had trouble with their aim and couldn’t stop Stivers’ high-powered guard, Shante Jones, who scored 11 points in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs were trailing 13–6 at the end of the period. Jessica Kellar, however, jump-started the Bulldogs, scoring 7 of the team’s 20 points in the second period. Carly Bailey and Ryder Comstock pulled down Stivers’ misses and stifled the Tigers’ offense. Tenia Scarver ran the Bulldogs offense to perfection, which led to several open shot layups for the Lady ’Dogs. Yellow Springs went into the locker room at the half leading 26–23. The second half was just as physical as the first, with both teams buckling down. Ashante Robinson corralled almost every loose ball in the second half, and the teams traded baskets into the fourth quarter, with the Bulldogs still up 41–35. In the final period, Alisha Lucas, Alisha Walker and Megan Burrick helped the Lady Bulldogs close out the game with tight defense and key scores. Robinson scored 10 points and had 8 rebounds for the night.
