OBITUARIES
Frank & Gretchen Life Andrew
Frank O’Brien Andrew, aged 38, and his
wife, Gretchen Life Andrew, aged 39, died on Saturday, Dec. 3, in a boating
accident on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, La. Their love for each
other was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Frank grew up in Yellow Springs, graduating from Yellow
Springs High School in 1985. He and Gretchen first met as students at
Wright State University where Frank earned a degree in finance and Gretchen
in psychology. Frank worked in financial systems technical support and
had recently taken early retirement to pursue his love of writing full
time. He was looking for a publisher for his second novel at the time
of his death.
A true “Renaissance man,” Frank believed
in living life to the fullest. His many pursuits included scuba diving,
painting, glass blowing, cooking, gardening, beer brewing and creative
woodworking. He lovingly handcrafted the 16-foot boat they sailed that
day, chronicling the process on his Web site, OneLuckyGuy.com.
Frank is survived by his parents, Richard Andrew of
Trinidad, Colo., and Lois Gladchild of Yellow Springs; and by his sister,
Ebie (Elizabeth) Andrew, her partner, Leah Kyaio and their four children
of Peebles, Ohio.
Gretchen graduated from the University of Colorado
Medical School in 2003 and was completing her pediatric residency at Louisiana
State University Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. Energetic and
always smiling, Gretchen was much loved by her patients, other medical
residents, and the hospital and clinic staffs. She had accepted an offer
to be the town pediatrician in Rifle, Colo. and the couple was looking
forward to the move and to starting a family there.
Gretchen is survived by her parents, Sandra and Richard
Life, and two brothers and three sisters, all living in Colorado.
A memorial service for Frank will be held Saturday,
Jan. 14, 2006, at 2 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meetinghouse
in Goes. In lieu of flowers, Frank asked that donations be made to The
Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA
22203-1606.
