sports Bulldog Sports Roundup The YSHS girls basketball team came out on top of a close 41–39 battle against Cedarville on Saturday, Dec. 10. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 4–1 this season. It was a nip-and-tuck game from the opening jump ball, with both teams patiently running their offenses. Tenia Scarver took control of the Lady Bulldog offense, distributing the ball inside and along the perimeter and keeping the Indians’ defense honest and confused. Yellow Springs led at the end of the first quarter, 12–9. The second quarter was physical inside the paint as both teams fought for rebounds and positioning. Carly Bailey had a four-inch handicap to the Indians’ center but matched her rebound for rebound. Bailey ended the night with 14 boards and a few bruises. Only 2 points separated the two teams at half, with the Lady Bulldogs up, 25–23. The Indians opened the third quarter by scoring 5 straight points. Alisha Lucas made a key jump shot to put a stop to the Indians’ run and get the Bulldogs back on track. Ryder Comstock and Alisha Walker grabbed 3 defensive rebounds apiece to help keep Cedarville at bay. The third quarter ended with both teams scoring only 8 points. The final quarter was as exciting as a big NCAA game. The teams traded the lead, gradually stepping up the pressure as the final minutes approached. Jessica Kellar made the final steal to clinch the Bulldog victory. Bailey was the high scorer with 17 points, followed by Tenia Scarver with 14. “Stats don’t always give the total picture, and today was proof,” coach Alex Autry said. “Without the hustle and defensive effort by Burrick, Foster and Lucas, Cedarville would have blown us out.” Games canceled due to snow The YSHS swim meet results from Saturday will be printed in next week’s paper.
