OBITUARIES

Mary E. Ellis

Mary Elizabeth Ellis of Tipp City died Friday, Oct. 21, at Springmeade Health Center. She was 89.

She was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Springfield, the daughter of Homer E. and Rena (Thorton) Swords. She worked for Thompson Grinder and Morris Bean & Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Ellis, in 1963; a son, Roger Ellis; a sister, Mildred Day; and her parents.

She is survived by a daughter, Julie Ellis of LaCrescenta, Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Schrade of Columbus; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Chapel of Peace, Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, in New Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 3797 Summit Glen Drive, G100, Dayton 45449.

Virginia J. Scott

Virginia J. Scott, formerly of Yellow Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Henderson, Nev. She was 91.

Virginia was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Cleveland, the daughter of George and Lula Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Lanthe Jones, Maryland Roberts and Georgia Gooden, all of Cleveland.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Harriet Blackman of Henderson, and four grandchildren, Milton Blackman of Harrison, Ohio, Terri Blackman and Marci Blackman of San Francisco and Shelly Kirk Blackman of San Diego.

Private memorial services were held Friday, Oct. 22, in Henderson. The family will be grateful for any memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
