Harriers win league meet The Bulldogs, who scored 20 points, finished leagues ahead of second-place finisher Troy Christian, which had 64 points, as well as Xenia Christian (66) and Middletown Christian (79). YSHS junior Sam Borchers won the boys’ individual title for the second consecutive year. It was also his eighth straight win this year, finishing in 16:25, nine seconds ahead of Dayton Christian’s Walt Luttrell. Andy Peters finished fourth in 17:42, 1 second in front of Evan Firestone. Carey Dixon placed sixth, Ben Adams was ninth, Jake GunderKline 15th and Brock GunderKline 17th. Anthony Pettiford, Matt Halm and Earnest Johnson also ran for the Bulldogs. Xenia Christian won the girls race with 15 points. YSHS runners Tina Peters finished third in 21:58 and Rebecca Guest finished in 15th place. Girls soccer wins tourney opener Erin Silvert-Noftle scored 2 early goals, the first on an assist from Ryder Comstock. Megan Burrick and Laura Garcia teamed to score the second goal, and Burrick and Jennifer Smith helped India Scarver score 2 more. Garcia and Tenia Scarver helped Lauren Miles score 2 goals, followed by 2 from Smith and Garcia. The Lady Bulldogs who are now 11–4–1, will host Brookville on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. If they win, the Lady Bulldogs play the winner of Twin Valley South and Northwestern, seeded first, on Monday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. Win again, and the Lady Bulldogs will play in the finals of the district tournament on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. The Lady ’Dogs lost their last game of the regular season to Dayton Christian on Oct. 15. Boys soccer ends regular season Against Franklin-Monroe, the Bulldogs fell behind 1–0 in the first half, and despite carrying a 7–4 shot advantage for the game, the YSHS gave up another goal in the second half. “We never got our game out of neutral,” coach Jim Hardman said. “Our play lacked intensity from the first whistle, and we spent the game chasing the Franklin Monroe players all night long.” Saturday night was Senior Night, and the Bulldogs honored players Kevin Carr, Carey Dixon, Nick Eastman, John Pamplin and David Suzel. The Bulldogs trailed by 3 goals at the half, again due to a lack of intensity. YSHS stepped it up a notch in the second half, with Suzel and Andrew Ferguson scoring 2 goals. The Bulldogs open play in the Div. III Dayton 2 district against Southeastern on Tuesday, Oct. 18. If they win, the Bulldogs travel to Greeneview, the top ranked team in the district and the state, on Thursday, Oct. 20, for a 7 p.m. match. Volleyball falls in 1st round The Lady Bulldogs, who finished the year 12–9, lost 16–25, 11–25, 14–25, despite the tight net work of high scorer Ashlee Jackson. The Lady Bulldogs split their last two regular season games last week. On Tuesday, Oct. 11, YSHS lost to Xenia Christian, in five sets, 11–25, 19–25, 25–18, 25–21, 11–15. The Lady Bulldogs were led by high scorers Olivia Dixon, Niquelle Orr and Crystal Reedy. On Thursday, Oct. 13, YSHS beat Ridgeville Christian, 25–19, 28–26, 25–14.
