OBITUARIES
Leroy E. Lewis Sr.
Leroy E. Lewis Sr. of Springfield died Wednesday,
July 13, in Mercy Medical Center. He was 75.
Born on Feb. 7, 1930, he was the son of Perry and Edyth
(Fisher) Lewis. Leroy was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church
in Springfield and served in the United States Army. He retired from Vernay
Laboratories as a group leader after several years with the company.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister,
Delores Sheffield.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karyl J. Lewis;
four daughters, Marsha E. Lewis, Laroilyn J. Byrd and Vicki L. Crowe,
all of Springfield, and Belinda L. Metcalf of Dayton; two sons and a daughter-in-law,
Leroy E. and Rita Lewis Jr. of Springfield, and Joseph P. Lewis of Yellow
Springs; one sister, Mary Lou J. Jackson of West Couina, Calif.; seven
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, at St.
John Missionary Baptist Church, with burial following in the Ferncliff
Cemetery. Porter-Qualls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Alma B. Peyton
Alma B. Peyton of Fairborn died on Friday, July 15,
in the Hospitality Home East in Xenia. She was 79.
She was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Sandy Hook, Ky., the
daughter of Samuel and Grace (Williams) Brickey. Alma was retired from
Delco Products, where she was employed as an inspector.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Clyde, in 1995.
She is survived by her siblings and their spouses,
John and Margie Brickey of Xenia, Autie and Ava Ruth Brickey, Alva and
Willie Ison, and Bernice Whitt, all of Sandy Hook, Bill Brickey of Dayton
and Elsie Patterson of Xenia; a sister-in-law, Mary Lee Boles and her
husband, Earl, of Yellow Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, at the
Belton-Stroup Funeral Home in Fairborn. Burial followed in the Valley
View Memorial Gardens in Xenia.
