OBITUARIES

Frances Cunningham

Frances Cunningham of Clifton died on Monday, July 4, at Friends Care Community, after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for many years. She was 80.

She was a Cub Scout leader in Dayton before moving to Clifton 47 years ago, and served as a Girl Scout leader in Cedarville and Yellow Springs for 10 years. In summer camp, she was known as “Mother Nature” because of her knowledge of plants and animals and her love of passing that knowledge on to the many girls she mentored. She donated over three gallons of blood to the Red Cross.

She worked at the Variety Store in Yellow Springs for four years until it closed and then worked for Coordinated Home Care for 22 years until her retirement.

Fran loved to garden and gave away many plants to friends over the years. She was a member of the Ohio Wander Freande Volksmarcher Club and had attended walks in eight states and Canada, logging over 3,000 kilometers. She founded the Clifton Cliff Cloppers Club and hosted many walks in Clifton Gorge and John Bryan State Park. She was a member of the Clifton Village Council for three terms and formed the Clifton Memorial Tree Fund.

She was preceeded in death by her parents; brother, Edward Fornefeld; and a son-in-law, James Stover.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Chester; six children, Sharon Stover of Tampa, James and Collette (Gau) of Santa Rosa, Calif., Eugene and Concepcion (Neira) of Bremerton, Wash., Jill Studevant of Clifton, David and Kay (Jones) of Coldspring, Texas, and Thomas of Austin, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Friday, July 8, at Jackson Lytle Williams Maley Funeral Home in Yellow Springs. Memorial donations may be made to the Clifton Memorial Tree Fund.

Adrien Gae Marshall

Adrien Gae Marshall of Xenia died Saturday, July 9, in Liberty Nursing Home, Xenia. She was 71.

She was born in Ashland, Ky., on Jan. 4, 1934, the daughter of J.W. and Minnie (Gilpen) Whitehouse. She was employed for many years at YSI Incorporated.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John M. Marshall, who died on Feb. 24, 2002; and a son, Dennis Craig Marshall.

She is survived by her children, Terre and Mark Hackley of Xenia, John Daniel Marshall of Troy, and Tina Delaney of Xenia; several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Boyd of Beavercreek; and a half-brother Larry Fosson.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 12, in the North Cemetery in Cedarville.

Scott Schilling Jr.

Scott Ellis Schilling Jr. of Spring Valley died Thursday, July 7. He was 84.

He was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Pike County, the son of Scott E. and Zelma (Crabtree) Schilling Sr. He was a U.S. Naval veteran and retired from Monarch Marking Systems.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances (Davis) Schilling, who died Jan. 23, 2005; and a daughter, Kathryn Schilling.

He is survived by children, Gwendolyn Rose and Keith Engle of Yellow Springs, and Reva Marlene and James Webb of Pittsboro, Ind.; grandchildren, Carolyn and Anthony Fyffe of Lebanon, Rebecca and Christopher George of Noblesville, Ind., Debra and Dale Pemberton Engle of Springfield, S. Derrick and Susan Parker of Centerville, Va., and Craig and Rachel Engle of New Carlisle; two great-grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren; and siblings, Donna South of Columbus, Marguerite Kube of Peninsula, Samuel Schilling of Monroe, Mich., and Jack Schilling of Greenfield.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 10, at Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite child-ren’s charity.
