OBITUARIES

Allen Frank Treadway

Allen Frank Treadway died in the early hours of Thursday, May 19, at his home in Xenia, following a lengthy illness. He was 73.

He was born Nov. 30, 1931, in White Plains, N.Y., the first of Clay and Dorothea (Allen) Treadway’s four children. On June 15, 1954, at Coal Creek, Iowa, he married Carolyn Ardith Smith; last summer they celebrated their 50th anniversary at the Yellow Springs Friends Meeting, where they were members.

Allen was a graduate of East High School in Des Moines, Iowa, and of Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. He was a conscientious objector, and did two years of alternative service at Indianapolis General Hospital following college. His career was varied, including work as a printer, middle school math teacher, county social worker, municipal water and wastewater superintendent, nut butter production manager and driver for a family literacy program. He challenged assumptions and made people think. He gardened and heated with wood. He read omnivorously.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; his siblings and their spouses, Ann Cook-Frantz and Alan Frantz of Wayland, Mass., Ray and Carole of Greensboro, N.C., and Roy and Carolyn of Normal, Ill.; five children and their spouses, Daniel Treadway of Gilbert, Iowa, Brian Treadway and Geraldine Glodek of Hannibal, Mo., Dorothy and Samuel Matthews of Ewing, Ill., Jennifer and Vince Peters of Yellow Springs, and Michael Irving of West Branch, Iowa; and six grandchildren: Christina and Andrew Peters, and Stephen, Philip, Mary and Joseph Matthews.

Services will be held at the Yellow Springs Friends Meeting on Saturday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m., and at the Bear Creek Friends Meeting (Conservative) near Earlham, Iowa, on Saturday, June 18. His body has been donated to the Wright State School of Medicine.

Irma Maria Wright

Irma Maria Wright of Yellow Springs died Wednesday, May 25, in her residence. She was 80 years old.

Born on Nov. 15, 1924, in Lucca, Italy, she was the daughter of Lili (Cella) Mazzolini and Roberto Mazzolini. She lived in Rome until 1957 when she moved to Yellow Springs to care for her uncle, professor Amos Mazzolini.

Irma graduated from the University of Roma with a master’s degree in education. She attended the University of Michigan and Antioch College. Irma loved to study music, art and foreign languages. She enjoyed teaching Latin, Italian and French to the youth of Yellow Springs and to generations of adults. She was a member of the Clifton United Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Wright.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Angela M. Wright and David K. Spyridon, and Maria V. Wright, all of Yellow Springs, Veronica M. and Richard Parthe of New York, and Martin G. and Susan K. Wright of Glenwood, Md.; three grandchildren, Alexander J. Wright, Andrew M. Wright and Victoria S. Wright.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 30, at the Clifton Presbyterian Church, with interment in Clifton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Dayton or Sowelo of Yellow Springs. Jackson Lytle Williams Maley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John E. Weldon

John E. Weldon of Fairborn died Saturday, May 28. He was 85.

He was born October 14, 1919, the son of Jess and Dora Weldon. He was a lifelong automobile and aircraft mechanic. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II, working as an aircraft mechanic on B-17s and B-29s in such locations as Kingman, Ariz., and the island of Guam. After the war, he worked for Lane Aviation at Port Columbus then retired from Trans World Airlines after a 33-year career. One highlight of his career was servicing Air Force One during President John F. Kennedy’s trip to Columbus.

Jesse was involved with the Ohio History of Flight Museum, where he assisted in restoring several aircraft currently on display. He also was active in the OX-5 Aviation Pioneers Club. He passed on his love of aviation to his son, Bill, a licensed private pilot, and his grandson, David.

He received care at Friends Care Community, Hospice of Dayton and the Fairborn Dialysis Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Christine.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Freda (Hickman) and son and daughter- in-law, Bill and Sue Weldon of Enon; grandson, David of Enon; sister, Helen Weldon of Melbourne, Fla.; and nephew and niece, Russ and Donna Watts of Sunbury.

Friends may call Friday, June 3, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 East Schrock in Westerville. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m., at the Moreland Funeral Home. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery in New Albany. Memorial gifts may be made to Cross Point Church of Christ in New Albany, Hospice of Dayton or Friends Care Community.

Dallas T. Searcy

Dallas T. Searcy of Enon died Friday, May 27. He was 81.

Dallas was born March 25, 1924. He was an avid bridge player, and he enjoyed his daily swims at the Fairborn YMCA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; a daughter, Wendy; and a grandson, Ryan Maupin.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steven Searcy of Pataskala and Dallas and Penny Searcy of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Bob Ishmael, Jason Searcy and Whitney Spears; great-grandson, Ethan Ishmael; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Paul Ellis of Bradenton, Fla.; and numerous relatives and many friends in the Yellow Springs area.

A memorial service was held Monday, May 30, at Adkins Funeral Home in Enon. A private burial in Enon Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
