OBITUARIES

Joseph Maychack

Joseph (Joe) Thomas Maychack of Butler Township died Sunday, May 22, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 57.

He was born in Albany and resided in upstate New York until moving to the Dayton area in 1987. Joe was the founder and owner of Trips Travel and Cruise and served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, the Vandalia Sister Cities, Vandalia Butler and Middletown Chamber of Commerce and the Vandalia Optimist Club. Joe has a passion for traveling the world, especially the Caribbean. He loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and loved his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Jean (Moorman); parents, Joseph and Frances Maychack of Dayton; children, Aimee C. Maychack of Yellow Springs, Christian Maychack and Misaka Inaoka of San Francisco, Anna and Nicholas Samela of Dayton; parents-in-law, Norma and Samuel Moorman of Florida; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, George and Mary-Eileen Moorman, Jan and Rodger Brutus, Joseph and Ruth Moorman, and Jack and Renee Moorman.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m., at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 East National Road in Vandalia. Cremation and final services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, St. Christopher Church Maintenance Fund or Miami Township Fire- Rescue. The Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home in Vandalia is in charge of arrangements.

Christina Darner

Christina Gene Darner of Yellow Springs died Sunday, May 22, at Greene Memorial Hospital. She was 94.

Born Dec. 21, 1910, in Warren County, she was the daughter of J.W. and Esther Catherine Lowry Warwick. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi T. Darner, and two sisters, Bertha Acton and Mary Knight.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ruthann and David Rue of Xenia and Paul E. and Viola Darner of Jamestown; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Warwick of Bradenton, Fla.

Visitation will be held at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 Detroit Street in Xenia, on Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Evangelical United Methodist Church.
