OBITUARIES

Stanley Dihrkop

Stanley Dihrkop of Yellow Springs died Wednesday, May 4. He was 81.

Born in New Paris on Aug. 28, 1923, he was the son of Karl and Maude (Lutz) Dihrkop.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was retired from Vernay Laboratories, where he was in charge of the Experimental Molding Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margeurite and Charles McDowell and Ruth and Ladley Harris.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Florence (Jenkins) Dihrkop; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Nancy Dihrkop of Jamestown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Lonnie Curtsinger of Orange Park, Fla., Pamela and Tim McLinden of Yellow Springs, and Linda and Tom Riemenschneider of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Kimberly and Shane Bisson, Kelly, Kirsten and Tricia McLinden, Chris Curtsinger, Katie and Tommy Riemenschneider; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 7, in the Jackson Lytle Williams Maley Funeral Home, with interment following in Glen Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Miami Township Fire-Rescue or the American Cancer Society.

Judith Hirschfeld Lapedes

Judith Hirschfeld Lapedes of Dayton died Wednesday, May 5, at Hospice of Dayton. She was 93.

Born July 20, 1911, in Denver, she was the daughter of Mildred Weinstein Hirschfeld and Emil Hirschfeld. The family lived in New York City for several years, then moved to Cincinnati. In 1933 Judith graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in art education. She married Clarence Lapedes of Dayton on Jan. 30, 1934. During World War II she was active in the Red Cross. After the war she was active in numerous nonprofit activities in the Dayton community, including serving as the president of the Temple Israel Sisterhood.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; and her daughter, Debra Lapedes Schwartz.

She is survived by her son, Richard Lapedes and his wife, Maureen Lynch; her son-in-law, Theodore Schwartz; sister-in-law, Shirley Hirschfeld; nieces Mila, Joan and Lisa Hirschfeld; friend Thomas DeLuca; grandchildren, Stephen Schwartz, and his wife Melissa Kotler Schwartz, Andrew Schwartz and his wife, Pamela Spetter Schwartz, Helen Lapedes and Will Lapedes; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 6, at Riverview Cemetery in Dayton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Dayton, Temple Israel or Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Ohio.

Carl E. Baker Sr.

Carl E. “Peal” Baker Sr. of Springfield died Friday, April 28, in his residence. He was 56.

Born on March 3, 1948 in Springfield, he was the son of James A. and Helen E. (Peal) Baker. Carl loved coaching Little League and was the coach of the Springfield Bears and Little Tigers.

He was preceded in death by his father; and brothers, Gilbert Tuck, Roger Tuck, Ronald E. Baker and Michael A. Baker.

He is survived by his mother; one daughter, Kartina Owens; son, Carl E. Baker Jr., all of Springfield; siblings and their spouses, Denise and Dana Cordell of Yellow Springs, Florence and John Booker of Columbus, Barbara Baker of Springfield, Luella Sutton of Springfield, Larry and Brenda Baker of Columbus and Steven and Angela Baker of Springfield; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 5, at Highlight Baptist Church in Springfield, with burial following in Fern-cliff Cemetery. Potter-Qualls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
