sports Compiled by Lauren Heaton Baseball team sticks Miami Valley Jake Fulton was in fine form on the mound, striking out 10 players with a no-hitter until the final out. At the plate, Fulton had two singles and a double. Noah Woodburn smacked his first high school career home run, and Clayton Wolfe had three hits and played a fine game at catcher. The rookie contingent of Kilan Brown, Kumar Jensen, Yosef Johnson, Zach Reichart, Todd Sheets and Drew Stratton combined to score 10 runs. Thursday’s varsity away game against Xenia Christian was rescheduled due to weather for Monday, April 25, at 5 p.m. The junior varsity team beat the Southeastern JV’s 19–16. Andrew Stillwell-Current led the team with three RBI, and Aaron Willis was pressed into action at third base and chipped in with three hits. Todd Sheets was the winning pitcher, and Andrew Ferguson picked up a save. Softball loses two Olivia Dixon stepped up for the first time as pitcher and settled in to strike out several Bethel Bees. Bethel scored all their runs in the first two innings, while Yellow Springs was working out its nervous kinks. But the Lady Bulldogs kept their opponents from the plate and opened the way for Megan Burrick to score on a hit by Jennifer Smith in the fourth. On the field the next day, Miami Valley scored 5 in the first and 3 in the second before Yellow Springs fell apart and let 10 runs through in the fourth. Last Thursday’s game against Xenia Christian was rescheduled for April 25 at 5 p.m. Track team shows well Yellow Springs had five second-place finishes on Tuesday, including that of Brad Benning-Clark, who managed a high jump of 6 feet even and a top 43.3 second flight over the 300 hurdles. Jeremy Upton cut to the front of the 800-meter run and finished in 2:10.2, while Sam Borchers breezed the 3200 meters in 10:13.4. Upton, Borchers, David Warren and Andy Peters also finished second in the 3200 relay in 8:45.2. Albon Holyoke took third place in a 10-foot pole vault, and Upton came in third in the long jump at 19’2. At Cedarville, Borchers finished the 3200 meters in 10:28 as the Bulldogs’ lone first-place finisher. David Warren finished second in the 1600 meters in 4:51.3, and Bradley Benning-Clark came in second in the 300 hurdles in 44.1 seconds. Though the 3200 relay team again finished in first place with a record setting time, they were disqualified for a uniform violation. Ben Adams and Dan Noll improved their times and distances from the previous meet. The girls team, led by the dynamic duo of Tina Peters and Carly Bailey, finished in 10th place with 14 points out of 18 schools at the Cedarville Impson Invitational last Saturday. Greeneview scored the win with 83 points. Peters finished third in the 3200-meter run in 13:38 and fourth in the metric mile with a time of 6:01. Bailey placed fourth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4'6. She also placed 20th in the shot put and 17th in the long jump.
