Girls reach tourney finals
The Yellow Springs sixth-grade girls basketball
team ended its season two weeks ago in the championship game of the Mini
March Madness tournament at Cedarville University. Although the girls
lost in the finals to a select team from Miami Trace, they showed great
determination to reach the championship game.
Stephanie Scott led the team in the title game
with 37 points and numerous rebounds.
After losing their first game, the Lady Bulldogs
made it through the losers bracket and won their next three games against
Greeneview and two Xenia select teams before losing to the Panthers.
Coaches John Beer and Chris Lloyd could not have
been more proud of the girls. “They never got down and they gave
it everything they had, especially the last night of the tournament,”
Beer said. “The girls had to play three consecutive games and every
team member contributed.”
After winning only two games the previous two
years, this year’s team finished 9–9.
“Everyone improved from last year and finally
realized through hard work and determination what they had to do as a
team to put it all together to be successful,” Lloyd said.
The team and the coaches thanked the team parents
and the community, especially Mike Haller, the league representative,
for their support.
