YSHS recognizes athletes

Yellow Springs High School honored 52 athletes at the 2004–05 winter sports awards ceremony at the high school March 2.

For the girls basketball team, coach Shirley Cummins presented fourth-year awards to seniors Tricia McLinden, Evin Wimberly and Jesslyn Yelton. Junior Megan Burrick received a third-year award, and sophomores Carly Bailey, Alisha Lucas and juniors Becky Pasch and Tina Peters received second-year awards. Wimberly also received this year’s coveted Bulldog award.

Boys basketball coach Brad Newsome presented the lone third-year award to senior Cody Johnson. Second-year awards went to senior David Warren, juniors Brad Benning-Clark, Aaron Willis, Issa Walker, Anthony Carter, Joe Lawhorn, John Pamplin and sophomore Ryan Silvert. First-year awards were presented to senior Chris Evans, junior Nick Eastman, sophomores Evan Firestone and Jerrico Stubblefield and freshman Kilan Brown. JV honors were awarded to junior Justin Love and freshmen Kyle Buchwalder, James Butler, Andrew Ferguson, Andy Peters, Jesse Rothman and Todd Sheets. Buchwalder received the freshman Bulldog award.

Girls and boys swimming coaches David Wishart and Abby Guiler honored both teams for a year of hard work. For the boys team, senior Mike Hosket received a fourth-year award, while third-year awards were presented to senior Will McCuddy and junior Jacob Wishart. Second-year honors went to junior Carey Dixon and sophomores Evan Gerthoffer and Brandon Carver-Halley, while freshman Pete Lovering received a first-year award. Sophomore Sam Borchers received the JV award. McCuddy received the Bulldog award.

For the girls team, second-year awards went to juniors Tina Chen and Eve GunderKline and sophomores Olivia Dixon and Michaela McCuddy. Junior Seiko Yamashita and freshman Miriam Barcus and Sarah Morrison received first-year awards, and junior Stephanie Goode received a JV award. Dixon received the Bulldog award.

The cheerleading awards were presented by advisor Lisa Crosswhite. Evin Wimberly received a fourth-year honor and junior Anna Haller a third-year award. Sophomores Alisha Lucas, Niquelle Orr and India Scarver received first-year honors. Freshmen Kim Davidson and Danielle Fulton received JV honors.

The 2004–05 winter season scholar athletes were Tricia McLinden, Megan Burrick, Carly Bailey, Tina Peters, Will McCuddy, Jacob Wishart, Carey Dixon, Brandon Carver-Halley, Tina Chen, Olivia Dixon, Miriam Barcus, Seiko Yamashita, Stephanie Goode, Anna Haller, John Pamplin, David Warren, Nick Eastman, Kyle Buchwalder and Jesse Rothman.
