Bernice Roberts
Bernice (Bryant) Roberts died Dec. 31, 2004,
in Community Hospital. She was 94.
Born in Clark County on July 6, 1910, she was the daughter
of Fred and Blanche Ann (Reed) Bryant. She received her bachelor’s
degree from Cedarville College. For 37 years, Bernice was a teacher in
several local elementary schools, retiring from the Springfield City Schools.
After retiring, she remained active in education, working as a substitute
teacher for 13 years.
She was a charter member of the First Christian Church,
where she taught the Philanthea Class from 1948 to 1998 and Bible school
since she was 16. She was also a volunteer at Community Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F.
Roberts; her parents; stepdaughter, Ruth Fitzpatrick; two sisters, Martha
Cooper and Helen Bryant; three brothers, Paul S., Dana and Kenneth Bryant;
and a niece, Marilyn Hulscheck.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Duane and
Jo Ann Cooper of Yellow Springs, Paul L. and Cathy Bryant of Barberton,
Dale Cooper of Cincinnati, Daniel and Cindi Cooper of Mason, Joanna Bryant
of Cedarville, Phyllis and Stanley Bull of Cedarville and Nancy and Ron
Danals of Dublin; son-in-law, Jim Fitzpatrick of New Carlisle; stepgrandchildren,
Gary and Timothy Fitzpatrick and Kathy Mosser.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the
Littleton & Rue Funeral Home in Springfield, with burial following
in Glen Forest Cemetery.
Mary E. Moore
Mary E. Moore of Fairborn died on Monday, Dec. 27.
She was 40.
Born on Nov. 20, 1964, in Dayton, she was the daughter
of William and Margaret Anderson. She was a home health care aide and
a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Church.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Jeff; daughter,
Erin Moore; son, James Moore; mother and stepfather, Margaret and Jerry
Greer; sister, Pamela Anderson; and brothers, Claude Anderson and William
Anderson.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 30, at the
Belton Funeral Home, Fairborn, with burial in Byron Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be
made to Pleasant Grove Missionary Church.
Lenora Garrison
Lenora Garrison of Beavercreek died Saturday, Jan.
1, at Trinity Community of Beavercreek. She was 84.
Born on April 1, 1920, in Arcanum, she was the daughter
of Jesse E. and Mabel Garrison. She graduated from Arcanum High School
and Miami University and was a retired bookkeeper in the Dayton area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters,
Winifred Braden and Martha Strehl.
She is survived by her sister, Vivian Van Ausdal of
Beavercreek; nephews and nieces, Paul and Carol Van Ausdal of Yellow Springs,
Karl Van Ausdal of San Antonio, Ray and Beverly Van Ausdal of Charlottesville,
Va., and Glenn and Cindi Van Ausdal of Beavercreek; and numerous other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the
Tobias Funeral Home in Beavercreek, with interment following in Oak Grove
Cemetery in Fort Jefferson. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Benevolent Care Fund at Trinity Community of Beavercreek or Hospice of
Dayton.
David L. Shepherd
David L. Shepherd of New Carlisle died Tuesday, Dec.
28, at the Grandview Hospital in Dayton. He was 42.
Born Dec. 13, 1962, in Columbus, he was the son of
Lewis L. and Andrea Keble Shepherd. He was a member of the Assembly of
God Christian Center.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He was survived by his wife, Raynee (Tyson) Shepherd,
whom he married July 29, 1988; his mother, Andrea, and stepfather, Rev.
J. Ray Tyson of Yellow Springs; children, Elizabeth Shepherd of Yellow
Springs and Christy Shepherd, Benjamin Shepherd and Ethan Shepherd, all
of New Carlisle; and two sisters and brothers-in-law; Karen and Mark Staples
of Charleston, S.C., and Rebecca and Anthony Mascola of Dayton.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Assembly
of God Christian Center, with burial in Glen Forest Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Christian Center.
Memorial for Jane Gordon
A memorial service for friends and family of Jane E.
Gordon will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2 p.m., at Rockford Chapel on the
Antioch campus.
Jane died Wednesday, Dec. 15, in Long Beach, N.Y. She
worked at Antioch University McGregor from 1992 to 2003 and spent several
months at Friends Care Community in 2003. Her brother, Marc Gordon of
Wolcott, N.Y., and her sister Judy Weitz of Long Beach are expected to
attend the memorial service.
