EDITORIAL

Thanks to our contributors for a great year

Publishing a newspaper is not an individual effort. It takes a dedicated staff and skilled contributors, devoted readers and generous and loyal advertisers. It is this type of partnership that makes publishing the News possible. More important, it helped make this a successful community paper.

Listed below are the names of those who contributed in 2004 to the News by writing letters to the editor, columns, reviews, articles and the occasional poem. Earlier this year, the News added headers to the top of each page in an effort to improve how the paper is organized and help readers navigate the paper’s contents. The header “Community Forum” was added to our opinion page to reflect the nature of the page: a place for the community to exchange opinions and ideas on a variety of topics, from public controversies to local or national politics, from serious topics to more lighthearted subjects. The people listed in this space have helped make this page an effective, active forum. For that, we thank you. Your contributions make this a better paper. At this time next year, we hope to list even more names, especially from people who have never written to the News.

Those who contribute in other ways also need to be recognized. Week after week, this paper is filled with valuable information about Yellow Springs, and much of it is generated by our readers who regularly submit announcements and press releases, obituaries, items for the “In and around Yellow Springs” section, photos and sports reports. Your valuable contributions also make this paper an effective tool to communicate with the community. We appreciate your contributions.

Thank you to all our advertisers. Whether you advertise regularly, or participate in the News’ many special publications or took out an ad just once, you helped keep the presses rolling every week. Without you, we could not publish this paper.

Most of all, thanks to our readers, for your support, ideas and feedback. You make coming to work worthwhile. The News would not be a successful newspaper without you.
