win first game of season Both teams had scrimmaged against Springfield Catholic earlier in the week, but the Bulldogs lost and Emmanuel won. Playing for the first time, the Bulldogs and Emmanuel Christian knew Saturday’s game would be tight. Emmanuel, which started its boys basketball program four years ago, was primed to slip another win under its belt. But the Bulldogs, who have just four players returning from last year’s squad, which won a Division IV district title, showed determination and consistency, with broad-based contribution from the small but mighty squad of nine. Brad Benning-Clark led the team with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Issa Walker scored 12 points, Ryan Silvert had 11 and Cody Johnson rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Jerrico Stubblefield gave a good defensive push and crashed the boards with towering might. Nick Rittenhouse grabbed several key rebounds and scored 4 points, while Anthony Carter, John Pamplin and Chris Evans took good care of the team’s transition game. Meet-the-teams night Dec. 3 Girls basketball goes 2–2 The Lady ’Dogs started on fire against Belmont, led by senior Evin Wimberly, who took charge of the offense with 21 points and 7 assists. The Lady Bulldogs had a 16–6 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Sophomore Carly Bailey scored 18 points and yanked down 13 rebounds, Alisha Lucas scored 11 and Megan Burrick had 10 and 7 steals. Yellow Springs ruled against Tri-County, again leading at the end of every quarter. Bailey was the high scorer with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Burrick scored 12 points with 5 steals, Wimberly scored 10 while racking up 6 steals and Jesslyn Yelton scored 8 points. Though Yellow Springs set the pace of Monday’s home game against Jefferson for the first three quarters, the Lady Broncos came back from a 17-point deficit in the fourth, edging YSHS by 2 points. Jefferson scored the game-winning basket with just six seconds left. Wimberly’s last-second scoring try was blocked. Wimberly led the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Burrick hit 4 3-pointers, scoring 18 total points to go along with 5 steals. Bailey had 14 points and 12 boards. Tricia McLinden played great defense, collecting 10 steals and 4 rebounds. Change to McKinney basketball schedule The McKinney School girls and boys basketball games scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4, have slightly changed. The seventh-grade girls team will play at 10 a.m., the eighth-grade girls team will play at 11:15 a.m., and the McKinney boys team will play at 12:30 p.m. All games are at Middletown Christian.
