OBITUARIES

Hazel M. Dabney

Hazel M. Dabney of Yellow Springs died Sunday, Nov. 21, at Friends Care Community. She was 81.

Born Oct. 24, 1923, in Grafton, W.V., she was the daughter of William and Ida (Mason) Dabney.

She was a member of Middle Run Baptist Church and a retiree of Central State University, where she served as a library aide.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Betty Armstrong.

She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Arquilla Dabney of Far Rockaway, N.Y., and William R. and Cheryl Dabney of Richmond, Calif.; nephews and nieces, Preston and Susan Dabney of Wilberforce, Lloyd Armstrong of Philadelphia, Robert Dabney of Richmond, Calif., Susan and Ray Brinkley of Orlando, Fla., Lenara Armstrong of Hamilton, Va., and Karen Dabney, Richmond, Calif.; and one great-niece, Rebecca Williams of Germany.

Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 27, 9–11 a.m., at Middle Run Baptist Church, with the family present at 10 a.m. Funeral services start at 11 a.m., with the Reverend Leroy Stills officiating. Burial will be in Massie Creek Cemetery.

Porter-Qualls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John L. Shaw

John Luther Shaw of Yellow Springs died Monday, Nov. 15, in Greene Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. He was 57.

Born in Dayton on March 26, 1947, he was the son of John T. and Frances Shaw.

He graduated from Yellow Springs High School in 1965 and from Wright State in 1969.

He participated in many theatrical productions with the Center Stage theatrical group. He loved the theater, whether he was performing, directing or simply watching.

He worked in publishing for a time in New York City and returned to Yellow Springs in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother, Frances Shaw of Yellow Springs; sister, Beverly Ritchey; and nephew, David Ritchey, and niece, Karen Edwards of El Paso, Texas.

Services were held Friday, Nov. 19, at the Jackson Lytle & Williams Funeral Home in Yellow Springs. Burial followed in Rose Hill Burial Park in Springfield.
