OBITUARIES

Richard Wakeley

Long time Yellow Springs resident Richard Wakeley passed away peacefully at his home, Saturday, Sept. 25, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 71.

Richard was born Nov. 1, 1932. He retired from Vernay Laboratories after 30 years of service. He enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and, of course, his grandchildren.

Richard was an avid sportsman, with trap and skeet shooting being his main hobby. He was an honorary member of the Yellow Springs VFW.

He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy Wakeley; his stepmother, Irene Wakeley; and a brother, Ronald Wakeley.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Pat; four children, Anita Adams of Beavercreek, Sharon Jones and Craig Wakeley of Cottageville, S.C., and Karen Thompson of Manchester, Ohio; two stepchildren, Christopher and Kimberly; his mother, Lela Lee Dacon; brother, Robert; a half brother, Tim Wakeley; and a half sister, Patty Wakeley.

A memorial service for the family will be celebrated at a later date.

Martha Bryant Cooper

Martha Bryant Cooper of Fairborn died Sunday, Oct. 17, at The Inn at Fox Run. She was 86.

She was born Sept. 19, 1918, in Clark County, the daughter of Fred and Blanche (Reed)) Bryant.

She was a charter member of First Christian Church and was the church organist for 58 years. She was a school teacher at Enon High School and at Greenon High School from 1959 to 1978, where she retired after 30 years of service. Martha was a previous member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, L. Sterling Cooper.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dale Cooper of Cincinnati, Dan and Cindi Cooper of Mason, and Duane and Jo Ann Cooper of Yellow Springs; sister, Bernice Roberts of Fairborn; three grandchildren, Micah (Maggie) Cooper of Oxford, Brian Cooper of Worthington, and Andrea (Ryan) White of Cincinnati.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m., at the Littleton and Rue Funeral Home, Springfield, with burial to follow in Glen Forest Cemetery, Yellow Springs. Memorial contributions may be made in Martha’s memory to the Missions Fund at First Christian Church, 311 West High Street, Springfield, Ohio 45506. Jerry Hughes died Wednesday, Oct. 6, at home in Goes Station. He was 69.
