Joanne Elizabeth Katon Hart
Joanne Elizabeth Katon Hart of Yellow Springs
died Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Hospice of Dayton of complications resulting
from a rare form of cancer, Myelofibrosis. She was 73.
Born in Xenia on May 24, 1931, she was the younger
daughter of Benjamin and Margaret (Pence) Katon. While in the first grade
her family moved to Yellow Springs to a farm on Fairfield Pike. She was
a graduate of Bryan High School and attended Virginia Intermont College,
Bristol, Va.
Most of her working life was spent with Odiorne Industrial
Advertising in Yellow Springs, where she retired in 1989 as one of the
three partner-owners. In retirement, she and her husband, John, traveled
internationally and also enjoyed many ocean cruises.
When her three children were young she served on the
board of the Community Children’s Center and was involved with numerous
school organizations. She has been a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian
Church, having served as an elder and in the Presbyterian Woman’s
Association over many years. For the last few years she has been a regular
volunteer at the Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce office.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings,
Robert Katon and Gretchen Kleinhans.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 45 years, John
Edward Hart Jr.; daughter, Kathryn Anne Kralovic of Beavercreek; sons,
John Edward Hart III of Sylvania, Ohio, and David Alan Hart, of Ashland,
Wisc.; daughters-in-law, Holli Neiman Hart and Cynthia Van Niman Hart;
grandchildren, Kristin and Kaitlin Kralovic, Grant and Jason Neiman, Catherine
Haverkamp and Stephanie Wissel, and Kyle, Patrick, Margaret, and Maria
Hart; great-grandchildren, Echo and Essie Haverkamp; brother and sister-in-law,
Richard and Linda Katon of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and good
friends.
Her body has been cremated under the auspices of the
Funeral Consumers Alliance of Central Ohio, formerly Columbus Memorial
Society. Her ashes will be interned later in Glen Forest Cemetery in Yellow
Springs.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Oct.
30, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Angela
Schenck presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, to
the Presbyterian Woman’s Association or to Hospice of Dayton, 324
Wilmington Avenue, Dayton 45420.
Linda Todd Yoder
Linda Todd Yoder died peacefully on Saturday, Sept.
18, after battling cancer.
She was born in Xenia and grew up in Yellow Springs.
She was a beautiful lady and her welcoming smile portrayed her love and
generosity. She will be missed by her friends around the world. She knew
no strangers and always had a smile for every person she encountered.
Kindness and caring were Linda’s trademarks, and she combined these
with her energy, loyalty to her friends and religious conviction.
At various times she ran her own businesses, Todd Interiors
and Blooms Again. She also managed apartment complexes in Texas and Arizona.
Many charities benefited because she championed their causes.
She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Norman
Yoder; mother, Martha Ream Yoder (Morris); and stepfather, Paul Morris.
Linda is survived by her brother, Mark; her sister-in-law,
Suzanne Yoder of Sarasota, Fla.; her family of close friends; and her
dogs, Gracie and Georgey.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 1, 4 p.m.,
at the Chapel of the Scottsdale Bible Church in Scottsdale, Ariz. In lieu
of flowers, donations can be made to the Arizona Chapter (AZ101) of the
Lymphoma Research Foundation, P.O. Box 32083, Phoenix 85064-2083.
Frederick Hinton
Tilton N. “Mac” McDaniel of Yellow Springs
died Monday, Sept. 13, in Outlook Pointe in Miamisburg. He was 76.
Born in Dayton on March 3, 1922, he was the son of
Howard and Ruth (Mitchell) McDaniel. He was a member of the St. Paul Catholic
Church in Yellow Springs and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired as
a lab technician from Vernay Laboratories in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife,
Josephine Ann (Donohue) McDaniel; son, Joseph McDaniel; and daughter,
Mary McDaniel.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Sept. 16,
11 a.m., in St. Paul Cemetery in Yellow Springs. Jackson Lytle & Williams
Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made
to the St. Paul Catholic Church, 308 Phillips St.
Memorial service for Robert Hammond
A memorial service for Robert D. Hammond of Yellow
Springs will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, 2 p.m., at the Faith Community
United Methodist Church on Country Club Drive in Xenia.
Robert died on Sept. 11, 2004. The family invites all
of his friends to come and remember his life. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to Friends Care Community or the National Kidney Foundation.
