YSHS boys soccer win all preseason games

Both the Yellow Springs High School junior varsity and varsity boys soccer teams added wins to their preseason totals this past week, completing their runs up to the regular season with perfect records.

Last Thursday the Bulldog JVs downed the Northwestern Warrior JVs 2–0 on goals by Ryan Silvert and Andrew Ferguson, to finish the preseason with 3 wins and 0 losses. In a contest stopped at the half due to inclement weather, the YSHS varsity squad claimed a 4–1 favorable decision on goals by Silvert, Duncan Silvert-Noftle (2) and Noah Woodburn. Picking up assists were Silvert-Noftle, Mike Hosket (2), and David Suzel.

Last Saturday, the YSHS varsity challenged a talent-laden alumni squad and came away with an 8–0 victory to finish their preseason with 4 wins and 0 losses. Scoring goals for the ’Dogs were: Silvert-Noftle (3), Woodburn, Silvert, Suzel (2) and James Butler.

Assisting on the goals were: Hosket, Silvert-Noftle (3), Scott Keyes, Woodburn and Jeremy Upton. The defense, led by Nic Huneck, Suzel, Hosket, Brandon Carver and goalie John Pamplin recorded their third shutout in four games.

The Bulldogs are in action this week, as the varsity hosts the Urbana Hillclimbers on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 7:30 p.m., and the JVs and varsity host the Greenon Knights on Monday, Aug. 30, with 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. games.

YSHS girls soccer schedule changes
Yellow Springs High School released two changes in the girls soccer team’s fall schedule.

The Lady Bulldogs’ game at Wilmington on Saturday, Sept. 4, begins at noon.

The team’s match at Xenia Christian on Saturday, Sept. 18, has been changed from noon to 4 p.m.

School XC teams now practicing
The McKinney and Yellow Springs High School cross country teams have begun practice for the 2004 season. Practice will continue Thursday and Friday, Aug. 26 and 27, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., starting at the YSHS athletic field. Saturday practices will begin at 9 a.m. unless supplanted by a road race.

Cycling as well as swimming, water running and weight training will once again be part of the conditioning program.

Starting Monday, Aug. 30, the teams will practice Monday through Friday, 4:30 to 6 p.m.

All students in middle school and high school are encouraged to attend the practices.

Football parent meeting
There will be a brief parent meeting on Monday, Aug. 30, at 6:30 p.m., at the Yellow Springs High School practice field for both the high school and junior high football teams.
