YSHS Boys soccer—
Varsity, JV win scrimmages
The YSHS boys varsity and JV soccer teams
are perfect after a week of preseason scrimmages.
The squad opened their preseason campaign last Thursday
against the Graham Falcons. Will McCuddy put the JVs on the scoreboard
early in the first half on an Andrew Ferguson assist. Shortly before the
half Graham pulled even with the Bulldogs when the YSHS defense could
not clear the ball out of their defensive zone. Four minutes before the
end of the game, Todd Sheets gave the Bulldogs the win when he dribbled
through the Falcon defense and put his shot past Graham’s goalie.
The varsity claimed a 6–0 win over Graham on
goals by Michael Hosket (2), Duncan Silvert-Noftle (2), Andrew Ferguson
and Noah Woodburn. Hosket, Silvert-Noftle and James Butler added assists.
The defense of Nic Huneck, Brandon Carver, David Suzel, Butler and Hosket
did not allow a shot on goal, giving goalkeeper John Pamplin a clean sheet
for his first game as the starting varsity goalie.
On Saturday the Bulldogs traveled to Plain City to
take on the Jonathan Alder Pioneers. The JVs posted a 4–0 win with
goals by Kyle Buchwalder (2), Ryan Silvert and Kevin Carr, and assists
by Alex Turner, Silvert and Butler (2). Joey Lurie and Zac Katz-Stein
combined in goal for the shutout.
The varsity ’Dogs found similar success in the
nightcap. Taking a 1–0 lead into the break from a goal by Hosket,
the Bulldogs cruised to a 4–0 win on second-half goals by Silvert-Noftle,
Butler and Max Buchwalder, and assists by Carver and Scott Keyes. Pamplin
and the defense picked up their second shutout in as many games.
Upcoming games include a JV/varsity scrimmage against
Northwestern on Thursday, Aug. 19, beginning at 5:30 p.m.; a JV scrimmage
against Brookville the next day starting at 5 p.m.; the varsity will play
