Don’t miss end of tee-ball season

By Jimmy Chesire

Friday, July 30, is the ninth week of Perry League’s ten-week summer 2004 tee-ball season. Next week, Aug. 6, will be our final night, the night of our potluck wiener roast, the night when we give a Perry League trophy to every single child who shows up, even if it is his or her very first night of play.

So put us on your calendars and come on out. We’d love to have you. And should you not be able to make it to Gaunt Park on that last night of play, let us know because “we deliver!” You can call Jimmy Chesire at 767-7300, Chris Murphy at 767-7408 or Adrienne Chesire at 767-7127. We’d be happy to get a trophy to you and your kid once you get back into town.

Girls summer basketball clinics

Basketball clinic for girls entering fourth through sixth grade this fall continues Friday, Aug. 13, 6–8 p.m., in the Bryan Community Center gym. Another practice will be held Aug. 27.

The clinics complement the KTC (Kenton Trace Conference) traveling team program and provide instruction and skills-building for girls new to basketball and those in the KTC program. Each clinic will consist of a fundamentals instruction and drills, dribbling and shooting games, and scrimmage.

Players can join at any time during the summer. For more information, call Rich Miller at 767-2049.

YSHS, McKinney athletes must receive physicals

Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School sports physical forms are available at the Yellow Springs Board of Education office, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

All athletes must have a physical completed and the form turned in before they can participate in a sport.

Greene Therapy Services will conduct physicals on Monday, Aug. 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at its offices on Monroe Drive adjacent to Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia. Physicals costs $15 per person. No appointment is necessary.

Students can also receive a physical from their family physician or chiropractor.

Youth basketball camp

Local high school basketball coach Brad Newsome is organizing a one-day basketball camp on Saturday, Aug. 7, for all boys and girls entering the sixth grade and younger. The camp will be held at the Bryan Community Center outdoor basketball courts and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with registration from 9-–9:30 a.m.

This is the fifth year for the camp, which will feature talks by local college coaches and Yellow Springs alumni. There is a 45-minute break at noon when lunch will be provided, and snacks and Gatorade will also be available for campers throughout the day. Participants are advised to bring their own water.

At the end of the day two campers, one girl and one boy, will receive awards in memory of residents Bryan Stubblefield and Arla Smith, who died this spring. All campers will also receive a basketball and tee-shirt for participating.

Anyone interested can pick up a camp brochure from the Mills Lawn School office on weekdays between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon, or show up to register the day of the camp. The cost is $30 for preregistration and $35 for same-day registration. Brochures contain information about where to send registration cards. For more information, contact Mike Haller, 767-1256, or Brad Newsome, 299-3246.
